Does anyone have it on laserdisc? I would love to have it. I already own the tapes, but I would love to have it on DVD-R in much better quality. Thanks..........

Yup, I transferred them from new VHS tapes to my Pan E30. Awesome! I had to use the Sima Copy Master along with the Panasonic WJ-AVE5 Digital Video Mixer in order to get rid of Macrovision. Went to a DVD cover site, downloaded the custom covers, and voila! I now have every Star Wars movie on DVD.

Where could I find one of those Panasonic mixers? I have the same problem with my StarWars VHS tape and the Sima is not working with this one tape.

You're better off getting the AVT-8710 Time Base Corrector as the Panasonic video mixer will set you back around $1000. I bought this unit several years ago, so you might find one on eBay cheap. But the AVT will be your overall best bet.

Yeah I figured that so I guess my best solution is to go with the AVT-8710 in the long run. I could record the movie using a rf modulator however the quality goes out the window plus the sound is reduced to mono, ugh.

  7. If you want the SE version, don't go through all that work, get them off e-bay. I hear they look great.
Don't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side.

  8. Apparently the "5 Star" DVD versions from asia are actually very nice, and are somewhat proffesional imports (bootlegs) as they are actually dual layer discs. Reviewers say they were likely mastered directly from the '97 SE laser discs and feature 5.1 audio. They are perhaps the best versions out there and can be had for a lot less than some other options -

    Hi Erwin,

you and I both have the same birthdates.. we signed up here on the same
    date Anyways..

Yea, I would do it my self. Simply for the fun and acomplishment of it all.
You could capture it from your set of VHS tapes and encode to your liking.
There are all kinds of way of doing it.

Just have a look at this LONG thread that started back in July 2002, if you
haven't already. Might be boring to you now, cause it's long, but its their
for your reference.. w/ lots of suggestions, tips and techniques for your
given scenario (VHS/LD) But, bare in mind, that most users there do it for
the fun, challenge, and entertainment, as well as the need.

    * Star Wars Conversions-Hit me with your best shot...

I hope you have the widescreen version though. They are (or should be) the
    best for maximum quality (vhs)

I'm working on getting the VHS set (slowly) but I want the orignal in
Widescreen, and uncut/edited. In the mean time, I'm (when time allows)
strenghtening my "process" of these transfers. Hopefuly, by the time I'm
ready, I'll have them in DVD quality, hehe... just thought I'd make you all
    laugh

There are some pics of screenshots of those that could post them, of versions
ranging from divX to VHS to LD shapshots. So, you should be able to do a
little guess work or comparisons to those w/ yours to see where you fit in
    the areana of things
With a little luck, maybe I'll be joining you their, w/ my issues and things.

In the mean time, good luck.

..and, may the force be with you !!
