Hi....Newbie here.
I have been starting to make slideshows for the photo department that I work in. I have gon a couple of different routes and need advice if anyone has the time.
My goal is to create a slideshow (about 5 minutes) with music and transitions (cross dissolve) that are custom timed to the music. VCD would be great as a final output, but a QT file on a cd with a launching script would be fine. High quality images and transitions are a must.
What I have done : 1. Created a monster file in Premiere 6.0 which I had to have put on DVD by an outside company. When exported to QT the file was over 400 megs because it was running @ 29.97 fps to give me the smooth transitions. Would not run on all computers until it was on dvd because of the large size. Overal quality was excellent.
2. Created small size files in QT Pro--image quality was good, but no custom timing or transitions.
3. Created a slideshow in MS Powerpoint and was able to custom time transitions to music and image quality was good, but lacked quality transitions (cheezy pixelated cross dissolves). Also lacked the playability by anyone that does not have powerpoint. I understand that Office 2001 can export to Quicktime though.
I am new to this and am flying by my seat here. Any help would be appreciated. I tried the search function and couldn't find anything that applied directly.
Thanks again.

A slideshow of 5 minutes length should not take up large files space when converted to VCD?????
I have made many of them using the Premiere method and exporting directly to MPEG.
Why are the files so big. Bearing in mind that I can fit 80 minutes of video onto one CD in VCD standard. Probabaly around 30 at SVCD.

Tommo,
Thanks for the reply.
I found this site and some info on VCD's after doing that project. Soooo...in layman's terms. I can take the Premiere file and export to MPEG and then make a VCD ? Is that correct ? I am on a Mac and am investigating how to go about this as we speak. Any additional info will be well appreciated !

Most of the MAC people seem to run virtual PC and use TMPGenc. But yes, everything should work. Also for best quaility you might want to make an xVCD. The VCD standard is 352x240 resolution, for best quaility (esp with slides) you might want to go for full 720x480.
