confused!!!!

can any one help me?.i have just tried to convert an avi to a dvd compliant mpeg,ive chose all the right settings(taken from the tutorial)and everything whent ok.when i loaded it in to ulead movie factory 2 it was obvious that it was not a dvdmpeg as it was twice the size and re-encoding was needed.I conerted using this method loads of times and i cant understand whats gone on!.
just thought id mention that I've recently done a complete re-install of my computer.
