  1. This article has nothing to do with video, but is interesting to read because of the terms used, such as the Big Rip, Dark energy, and so on.

Who says scientist have no sense of humor.

Science is all a big joke. The only useful part of it is the part that find medication and helps people to heal. All this space stuff just isn't for me.

  4. Actually, there has been many important advances because of space travel. Some directly from it (such as GPS systems), and others indirectly (like new building materials).

Plus, many advances in medicine as well. In fact the Columbia had several medical experiments on board before she was destroyed. Two I remember were studying the effect of gravity on blood flow to help with heart conditions, and one to help identify cancer genes.

You never know where an experiment will lead you. In fact, Penicillin was discovered because an experiment for a completely different reason was contaminated. So, I usually try to refrain from passing judgement too quickly on the usefullness of an experiment.

Who knows where this dark energy will lead us? Maybe anti-grav cargo haulers like in Star Trek.

So you could do without your MAC then TGPO. Without Science and Engineering, we would all be back in the dark ages.

Could I do without my mac? There's no way. I'd have to take it with me to the Dark Ages....but finding power for it would be the tricky part.

  7. Power is no problem, you just need copper, zinc, and a whole sh*t load of lemons!!

Or make a stationary bicycle and a generator like the professor made on Gilligans Island

  8. You still need the fundamentals of Science and Engineering. The copper and zinc ore need to be mined and processed. And the expertise of what to do with the raw components to make a battery would not exist without science.

  9. Of course, if TGPO did manage to get his MAC running, he would be burned at the stake as a witch for keeping evil spirits in his little box!

Yeah, a lot of people tend to underestimate how important science has been to us over the years. this is one of my favourite quotes
If you can tell me how Science and film making and cameras go together, i'd be thrilled to read it.
I won't say who said it, and given the forum search is down you will never know

OK how about, without science there would be no film making or cameras.

Oh go on who said it

Guiness seems to have the ability to transfer all the power you were expecting to turn into a hangover into an awesome series of farts the next afternoon though
