  1. i got a ntsc dvd from a trade i did...
i am from france, so i can only play pal in my dvd player, the ntsc dvd i received is obviously black & white,as i saw before with vcds...
it's working on my computer so that's fine, but i'd like to be sure there's not a simple way to get it working on my home dvd player...

    thanks

  2. Are you sure that your DVD player won't handle it? I ask because just about every player sold in the UK will accept NTSC as will most televisions (except really old ones).

    "Simple"?

    No.

There are some relatively painless methods, but none of them are what I'd call "easy". Do a quick browse through the past week or so of posts and you'll see a lengthy thread on the topic with some good guides/links, but none of them are "simple", in that they all take several hours of re-encoding.

  4. I am interested in the same thing (but in reverse - PAL to NTSC)
    and I stumbled upon this:

    All Video Converter
    http://www.zealotsoft.net/

I haven't tried it yet though.

  5. Make sure you can't do this simply before you embark on a complex re-encoding. This is what I do to convert a PAL DVD to play on NTSC DVD player and TV in the US:
    - rip and compress with DVD Shrink
    - burn to DVD setting region 1 bit on (in case DVD player looks for it)
    - play in NTSC DVD player

This is pretty simple and painless. Not all DVD players will take the new disc. But many will.

If that does not work for you then I guess you'll have to do some re-encoding.

Dude, he already tried it in his player, and got black & white. This means that the region is ok but his player just can't handle NTSC (the black&white is a common side effect of NTSC on a non-NTSC system).
