The new version of the Sima SED-CM Video CopyMaster now has digital circuitry and abides by the rules for copyrighted protection. In other words many people have been able to use the older version of this device to make copies of dvds and vhs tapes that were copy protected. With this new version you will not be able to bypass the copy protected material.

I know this because a friend of mine has an E50 and bought one so that he could copy a vhs tape that was copy protected. Well the E50 would not allow him to make the copy. So if you are planning to get a device to bypass copy protected videos look elsewhere.

  2. I have not been lucky to find a Sima product or anything similar to bypass macrovision therefore I use a Terk product (RF Modulator) with a seperate stabilizer. DVD Video out to the stabilizer then out to RF Mod, DVD Audio out direct to RF Mod. Coax from RF Mod to DVD Recorder. Yes, the quality degrades from RCA jacks but still ain't that bad. I am not so technical as some of the people here but I am a happy camper who can record anything on my Panasonic DMR-E50

I personally use a device called an AVT-8710 TBC that works fine and also has svideo inputs that give me better quality. This device also has controls for brightness, color, hue, sharpness and contrast, all in a unit that fits in your hand.

I don't have any problems with Macrovision, and the quality is superb.

thats is not fully true. the Panasonic machines pick up BOTH macrovision and CSS. The Sima devices get rid of the regular macrovision, BUT NOT the css protection. So it is not that they changed anything but that it can only get rid of one form, unless you spend the extra funds to get their version which gets rid of type 2 macro and more[/quote]

  6. Go to http://www.facetvideo.com/. I've never used this unit but it looks promising.
