I have had this MSI 16x DVD for awhile, tonight i decided to check the speed, I noticed posts awhile ago about people bragging about 4x rip, so i figured id post mine.
5.6x and ive seen it as high as 8.something before.
Im attaching a screenshot.

do a search for DVD-ROM ripping speeds
but, many ppl have stated that Lite-On DVD-ROMs can rip that speed
---------
even my cheapo 16X Artec DVD-ROMs (bought 1 for $12, other for $30) sometimes gets near 7-8X ripping -
yep, poopyhead is right about LiteOn DVD drive. I currently have 2 model, LTD 163, and JLMS-XJ 166s. The 166s ripped single layer @ 14x for me (starting out @ 7x), and w/ dual-layers, max out @ 9x. Best I've seen so far and I love it. LiteOn is the best as well interm of burners.

Funny that the cheapest dvdroms are the best.
Incidentally, Lite-On CDRW's are the best for overburning, capable of burning 99 Minute cds to capacity, where most burners cant.
Btw who is teh girl in your avatar poopy? -
