    www.on2.com has release made their vp4 codec available for free download (i didn't really read the licence agreement that carefully so i dunno if there's any restrictions in addition to the usual legal mumbo-jumbo). I haven't had time to do any extensive testing of the codec yet, but if you like to try it you can give it a shot. It's supposed to work with all VFW applications (worked with Virtualdub at least).
