  1. I am trying to backup a tv episode box set. All the discs are dvd9 and I all I want is the menu and the episodes (also with the chapters to stay intact). no extras, etc are needed.

is there a solution that will let me do all of this and keep near the same quality of the dvd? i have been searching the guides and am in the process of testing some of these. But I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with this and could point me in the right direction.

    Thanks.

It would depend on the size of your menu and movie. Try using DVD Shrink since it's free.

  3. The movie is about 6.8gig and the menu is about 73mb.

I just tried using DVDshrink 2.3 as my first test and i had to compress at level 8 (%40) and i am not sure I like the results...

I am sorta looking for quality over speed, but i really want to keep the menu and its functions as well as all the chapters.

Is this possible (to keep decent quality that is!)

  4. use DVD2DVDR program, will re-encode (using CCE) the movie and that will take time! since you dont care about time ...go for it

ill hope this one will help :

  5. unfortunately i can't find a way to use dvd2dvdr and keep the original menu and chapters.

this dvd has one main movie comprised of 4 PGC's. with the menu, etc.
is there a way to re-encode this with CCE then maybe copy the menu and chapters over some way?

    thanks.

  7. @jarvis1781,

i don't think the "Big 3" will be able to keep the menus

CloneDVD removes extras, and transcodes menus and the movie. Give it a shot, but at that compression rate the big3 is really gonna be your best choice.

  12. Play with IFOEdit and use DVD Decrypter to rip all used titles from start to menu to play. Then use DVDShrink on ripped files to shrink down....I do this all the time...

i personally use ifoedit to split episode discs to 2 disc

as episode discs are already compressed to fit all the episodes of one disc

I use CloneDVD a lot and have no problems with it. I like the way it will compress to exactly (or almost exactly) 4.36Gb and how it can remove the extras while keeping the menus. However it seems to replace the removed files with very low bitrate grey vobs that run for the same amount of time as the removed file! I was wondering if it was possible to replace this with a simple 1Mb "holding" vob or would that f**k up the structure of the DVD making it unplayable. At least the "grey" vobs occupy less space than DVD Shrink's "Still Pictures" option.

  16. If you keep the menu but not the extras then youre gonna have a menu with links on it that points to things that aren't there.

a dvd recorder can make a menu with just the main flick on it, however
