Ok, I know someone can help with this.

I have a DivX that is 23.97fps (NTSC Film?) that I would like to convert to VCD and (potentially) DVD.

For VCD I have used TMPGEnc + to do straight VCD 23.97fps conversion that is ok (except for the Bitrate bug that doesn't allow me to get it on 1 disc, but I can deal with that). TMPGEnc automatically selects 'Inverse Telecine' - I guess this is correct. Anyone who thinks this is wrong please let me know.

    Main question
As far as I can work out 23.97fps does not exist in DVD spec (and indeed in TMPGEnc there is no template for it). So how do I go about converting to DVD? Do I convert to 30fps and use Telecine (3:2 pulldown?) and sit back and wait for the superb results? Also does the audio need changing (except for 48Khz, etc.)?

    Other questions (not as important)
My DVD (Tosh SD100) can play PAL/NTSC as can my TV (Pana TX28PK2). Will my TV cope with 23.97fps?

How do film studios convert 23.97fps to 25fps, and 30fps to 25fps?

    Thanks in advance,

    Jukka

You should NEVER need IVTC (Inverse Telecine) on a 23.97fps movie as the IVTC process is to convert a 29.97 telecined movie into a 23.97 non-telecined movie.

For a proper DVD, you must have - in the video tab of TMPG - frame rate of 23.97 (internally 29.97), and have the encode field set to 3:2 pulldown. 48Khz audio is a DVD standard I believe, so nothing but that will work.

I am no TV expert, but I doubt it - I know mine won't.
