  2. Use Womble VCR. You need to register to use MPEG2 functions but is the best MPEG cutter out there.

TMPGEnc can be used but is not accurate and needs an reliable MPEG2 codec to be installed, otherwise it likes to crash on me when cutting.

  3. If you're talking about backing up a commercial DVD, then DVDXCopy is absolutely the best at this. DVDFab is supposed to be good (but I never did get it to work) and it is nagware whereas XCopy will cost you $100 or so.

As the previous poster says, if you just want to split an MPEG then using Wobble is probably the best (only?) way to go. Cost you $150 I do believe.

I've used dvdxcopy, the backups will play fine on the PC but not on my standalone (Apex 5131) Now I've used DVDfab on a couple movies, so far it has worked quite well allbiet with the nag boxes. Sooner or later, I'll get tired of them and just register it to eliminat the nagging...

  5. You can't register DVDFab anymore -- the author has gone out of the Fab business and sold to a commercial venture (so it may cost you money to buy the replacement). If you like Fab you should download the very latest right now -- I *think* it's without nag screens.

Some people have reported problems with XCopy, but I've found it works perfectly on every movie I've tried. Only episode disks are a problem (but that's not what the poster was asking).
