  1. It all started about 5 years ago when a married a crazy German… (don’t do that btw, sucks the life right outa ya)… As you might expect, we get DVD’s from the In-Laws all the time for the kinders (kiddies)… I have tried several methods of converting PAL to NTSC with varied success. On the cartoon DVD’s, pretty much anything worked, but know that they are growing into crazy Germans themselves (clearly from the mothers side) the DVD’s are more like “Mr Roger” except its “Her Clink” or something…
I’ve tired several methods with a little success but you can still see the glitches… the most promising method I have tried is:

1.) DVD2AVI load the VOB’s and save as a project
2.) Then use TMPGEnc to load the d2v and audio files and select the North America DVD template for the output.

After several labors hours I get a 4 GB mpg file with awesome video quality and sound… only problem is that it’s out of sink… so what I need is a little clear expert advice, on what I am doing wrong with this method or some other method that will have high quality….

And for any one else out there in the same boat I offer the following three pieces for advise

    1.) Don’t marry a German.
    2.) Don’t have kids
3.) Just say no to European DVD’s

Just kidding about the first two... or just don’t tell my wife….

Well I presume we're talking about just the video here... I'd do this:

    1. Rip the movie alone to a folder.
    2. Demux it.
    3. You have two choices. Are you going from 25fps to 23.997 (24), or from 25fps to 29.xx (30)? If you've been using the standard DVD NTSC template, it's probably defaulting to 30, hence your synchronization issues.
3a. You wanna change the type of media to FILM, that'll set the framerate at 24fps, which is a nice little transition from 25fps and is much cleaner.
3b. I'd encode WITHOUT audio, and remux afterwards.
3c. If you INSIST on upsampling to 30fps, you'll most likely be needing to upsample the audio as well.
