Has anyone tried Matrix DVD-R 4.7GB 1X-4X Bulk from shop4tech.com? I've never heard of this brand of media. From what the compatibility chart says it would work at 4x with the A06 and DRU-500.

  4. What is the reason you wouldn't buy from them? is your basis on rumors, or have you had a bad experience?

I was mailed a free sample pack of the Matrix 4X DVD-R's. I tried them, and they burned at 4X, and played excellent to the end of the disc. I have had no problems with them.

I bought a 50 pack of these Matrix DVD-R's for 1.10 each disc, and am having no problems. They were sent free shipping, and I got them in 4 days.

I also bought a 25 pack of their Speedy DVD-r's and they said they played on PS2's, I didn't believe it till I got them. They played on my finickey PS2, that only plays Verbatim, TDK, Pioneer, and Apple.

I was concerned at first, becasue of the rumors, but they have been real good so far.

If they are offering a free sample, take it.

I declined because the person who offered it to me was a complete stranger. He/she has never posted on these forums and I've never seen his/her member name before.

  6. Shop4tech sent me a sample of their house DVDs (the ones made by them) and they work fine, even play on a DVD player that otherwise only plays TDKs.

They may be decent disc, but personally they are not only cheap they are brands I've never heard of, this always worries me cause I wasted alot of money over time trying to find decent disc. Who knows maybe I'll get a few to try at some point and run kprobe and dvdspeed on them.

BTW if things go well I hope to finally do testing on BeAll this weekend and update my website.

  8. UPDATE!!

I recieved the 50 pack of the Matrix 4X DVD-R's and the 1st burned fine, but displayed a little pixelation at the end of the disc.

I burned 3 more DVD-Rs from the batch, and they wont play on my standalone. The DVD player just keeps ejecting the DVD.

    I e-mailed Shop4tech and am waiting for a response.

As far as the Speey DVD-R's , I will need to do more testing. The one that I did burned played on my PS2, flawlessly.

    More later

I was sent samples from SHOP4TECH and they worked great with PIO-106/A06, and with my 2 PIO-105 that burned directly at 4X with no firmware upgrade needed. I already bought 500 pcs for $0.95 with FREE SHIPPING, and from my personal experience these new MATRIX DVDR's are working fine.

  10. Hi,

I was reading your thread, so I wanted to let you know my expieriences with the "Matrix 1-4x" product. Heres my story.

Having bought from Shop4tech before, I was emailed a promo for some new product last week. I was pretty leary about the brand so I called and asked the customer service rep a bunch of questions. The usual "will it work with this and that", "What if it doesn't work" blah blah blah... The guy told me that if I had anything wrong with them, like all their products. I have 30 days to return them..fine.. He offered me a 5pack "Sample" pack and I took it. I mean come on, free stuff. HA! anyways. I've tried all 5 and they seem to be pretty decent. Heres what I used them on.

Pioneer 105 and Sony DRU500A using Nero 5.5.10.35 with both drives. Smooth Sailing.

They have a 100 pack for like 104 and some change. Going to try that and a couple of different Software options.... So stay tuned. I'll post more as I find out more.

From what i'm hearing 70-75% think the media is good. I'll give it a try after i'm done with my 40 BeAlls. Thanks for the feedback.

  12. Ok, So I get the 100pack and started burning... For some reason its working on my Pio-105 and a Friends 106 ok at 4x. But on my Sony. its only working at 2x.... Strange.. I thought they might have switched the media on me on the sample pack.... I called them up and confronted them about it.. I mean Its not a big deal really, 2x is still so much tolerable than 1x right. But media should do what is they advertise it to do right? well one of their customer service reps tell me that so far the manufacturer on stands behind 2x with the Sony and that you "Might" get some here and there that are going to burn at 4x. The media is shakey on the Sony drives nevertheless. I was told that I was not the only one that experienced this and that they would be happy accept a return on the product. All I have to do is pay for shipping. ( no big deal ) I was also told that the manufacture of this media ( name still not disclosed, but as long as its working ) is working to fix the issue and that their mid August batch will have complete compatibility at 4x with my sony drive... So, I guess i'll be using them mostly on my Pioneer. I will try some of their "Mid-August" batch, and update you folks again. Ciao!

  13. I got the sample pack last Saturday from Steve at Shop4tech and burned one DVD movie during the weekend. The result is OK so I will try another one soon. Here is my test result:

ADVDInfo report the manufacturer is LONGTEN (an infamous Taiwanese company pretty new in the DVD media field)

    0F 08 08 00 09 55 09 10 0B 90 88 00 0A 80 88 80 .....U..........

My Pioneer DVR-105 with Nero 5.10 had no problem to recognize it as 4X media and burned the first DVD movie within 17 minutes. Nero DVD Speed reported a smooth 2X reading of the media with Pioneer DVR-105.

However, my I/O Magic DVD-Rom drive could read at 4X-6X speed for the first 1.20GB and then stopped with error 031100 (attached see screen capture).

Good news is my standalone Pioneer DV-414 player can play the movie very well. Will test more to see whether the high speed read problem is constant.
