  1. Anything to lock dvd ripping speed?

I have one DVD that plays fine, but the video stutters off the rip. In my Pioneer player I've ripped up to 11x. My TDK 420N burner seems locked at 2.1x. Ripping the same files on this disc using DVD decryptor and the two different drives produces the same result. It's not my system, I've ripped other discs just fine. I also tried cleaning the disc.

    Running Win2000 SP3.

    Thanks.

  2. I'm afraid most, if not all, DVD burners are locked at 2x max rip speed. You can try flashing it with unofficial firmware to unlock the 2x rip speed, but that could also render your burner inoperable. Best bet is to get a seperate DVD-ROM (like the LiteON) for ripping DVDs.

  3. try not to use your DVD burner to rip, as it is often times locked at 2X (to prevent ripping), and also will increase wear-and-tear on your burner.

it will be much cheaper to replace a dead DVD-ROM than a dead DVD Burner.

  5. Actually, I want to try ripping a disc at 1x - it plays fine, but no matter what I try when I rip it, the video stutters. I got rid of unnecessary TSR's, cleaned the disc, etc.

Have you tried playing the ripped VOBS to see if THEY stutter? It could be the rip, but I'd guess it's the burn.

  7. Yeah, I tried playing the ripped VOB's too. :/
I played a VOB ripped from both the reader and the writer with the same results.

I'm a little suspicious of the disc, hold it up to the monitor and I can see through it pretty easy (which really makes me want to back this one up before it craps out)
