    Purchased music downloads and approved free music downloads are legal such as from music companies and Internet music providers. Examples: BuyMusic.com, Sony music and Mp3 .com.

    Typically any downloaded music not approved and not paid for is illegal such as using P2P KaZaA.

    Copying the songs from Internet radio is also illegal. This is regarded as piracy and a theft of music.

    you mean music vidz from P2P..yikes...

    ppl rls much higher quality SVCD music vid caps now....great quality..but huge file sizes (~ 70-100 MB)

    @Chriscjgs,

    yes..technically recording music off the radio and capping music vids is illegal, but i would tend to think music vids are promotional tools (i.e. to get ppl to listen/watch the songs and go buy the album...and ultimately to pay top notch dollar to go watch concert).

  5. It's illegal.

    Whether or not the music companies prosecute over downloaded music videos or not is another matter though.

  6. I've believed it to be illegal. If it's not for sale, there's nothing wrong with getting it for free. You really have no option otherwise. If only the music channels would let people pay for them to send a music video to them on DVD for like $5 or something.

    I believe it isn't illegal, as the sites I have visited merely have videos recorded from TV with logos and what-not all over them, so it is just really something time shifted from TV that you plan to watch later.

    Supposing my friends VCR is broke and he asks me to tape his favourite show until he gets a new VCR. But, instead, I capture to HD and burn it as a vcd for him to watch in his DVD player - is this a crime?

    Next: he can't come around to pick up the vcd because he's got the flu, so asks me to put the mpeg on a P2P so he can download it from me and burn it himself - is this a crime?

    The original program was on TV and can be accessed by anyone - surely all that we're doing is timeshifting? (of course, if the program was on a subscription chanel, then I can see how that is illegal).

    I have 400+ music videos. I don't see how they can be considered warez, because it's the same as me taping them off MTV, or a song off the radio. It's all promotion.

    Illllllllllegal. Well...maybe not to download(here in sweden)...but sharing it is illegal.

    What is the difference from recording a movie or serie from the tv and also distribute it to everyone?

    Surely the answer is dependant on whether there is any intent to profit from the distribution. I see nothing wrong with recording something from 'free to view' TV onto a tape and giving a copy to someone else if there is no profit involved.

    hahahah

    Nah, i think with music videos its alright, like Baldrick said, whats the difference from slapping a VHS (or even a dvdr recorder) on to MTV or VH1 all day - they are for public viewing.
