  1. Hi All

I Hope some one can help me

i will try to explain the best i can

i'm tryin to make a succesful back up of any of my Dvds but i have had no such luck so far

I have 3 DVD players that i test them on
    1. Hyundai 320a
    2. a Philips (not sure of the model)
3 and one of those hi fi's that plays DVd's

Ok i started buy making them with Dvd2one as the quality looked good and it was so simply to use (doing full copys by the way). the first 2 backups worked perfect on the hyundai, but towards the end of the films on the other 2 dvd players it would frezze some times for a couple of seconds other times just totally stop.
I read on this site that some DVD-r's are funny towards the end of the disk so i changed the setting on Dvd2one to 4400..
After i did that every back up i did, had that problem of frezing towards the end of the movie on all players & now the two backups i did that worked on the hyundai dvd player did not work at all now. wouldnt load or nothing.
After this i thought it had to be DVD2one, so i went to pc world & picked up a copy of IC7 i did con air, face off & armageddon on it. now this is what happened with these,
face off worked in the philips but in the hifi it got 20 minutes through & the picture would sort of stutter, the sound was ok but the pic was constatly stutering so it wasnt well to watch
face off worked perfect in the hifi but would not load in the hyundai
Armageddon worked in the hyundai but in the philips it had the same problem as DVD2one it froze towards the end and it knocked it self off...

I have done a few discs with dvd shrink and i have no problems (but i used that movie only) i'm going to spend today testing dvd shrink with full copy & see if it has any problems

The Dvd-r im using at the mo is Datawrite classic pink top

Has any one got any ideas of the problem im running in to or im i just cursed never to make a good back up

By the way im using nero express to burn the files & with the ic7 i've turned them in to iso's & burnt with decrypter

i hope some one out there can help me!!!!!!!!!!

People around here swear by Ritek media.

I personally just stick with big brand-name media.

If you buy a spindle of Fuji, Verbatim, or Memorex rated for the speed of your drive you really can't go too wrong.

I'm stuck in 2.4x land because I keep missing all the sales on 4x media. (DAMN YOU TARGET!)

I am one of thoese that swear by Ritek. Great price, about $1.05 ea. I have burned about 500 and not a single problem.

datawrite pink top are crap princo disks ..... buy some better disks, mirror media 4x (AN03 is the manufacturers id) work great for me on a dvd player that is very picky about media (only tdk and mirror will play on it although i havent tried every brand but ritek and princo are a no go(especially the princo it just wont touch them)).

datawrite classic 2x (grey top) are tdk
datawrite 1x (yellow top) and 4x (pink or red top) are princo
    bulkpaq (all speeds) are princo
    mirror media 4x are ANO3
datawrite also do some media that are ritek (not sure which ones)

on my picky player only the mirror and the datawrite grey tops will play without problems ( i have tried ritek own brands eg not the datawrite with ritek dye only disks labeled ritek and they freeze at about 45 mins onwards

i have heard that datawrite are stopping production of the 2x greytop disks but i dont know wheather this is true or not ..... i hope not coz the mirrors are not as easy to obtain as the datawrites

Also, I've used Mirror x4, burn at x4 wonderfully, but my Acosutic Solutions DVD player refuses to play them at x4 burn, eventually complains that there is no disc

But, burn at x2, not a single problem, burnt using latest Nero 5 in UDF 1.02 mode (UDF 1.05 works in my player, but just to make sure 'others' can play it as well !), and Pioneer A05 v1.30

I burn 2 movies per DVD, and also multiple episode DVDs, working it out to fill as much of the DVD-R as I can, normally about 50-100MB free if its a movie DVD, and right to the limit for a multiple episode DVD

It doesn't have to be cheap media to have problems. I bought 15 Verbatim DVD+R discs and all 15 of them were un-usable after about 3.9GB. Also I bought 10 Apple DVD-R discs and made 10 coasters with write errors.

  12. Hey psx_pirate are you just on about media?

Cause Dvd shrink is free & I would say it is way better then some over software out there that you pay for

What would you say are good discs?
i've just ordered some Mirror. i hope they do work good....

Just to let you know, I haven't got any problems with the Princo 4speed media (Red Datawrite, Orange Bulkpaq) even when burning the full 4,3gb. I'm reading very bad reports about this media on these forums but I'm fairly sure it's not the media that causes the problems.

Flash has done extensive testing on DvD-R media, please take a look at this article!!

I have similar results with my A05 using these media. Using Nero 5.5.10.20 with UDF/ISO (physical partition UDF v1.02) and NOT relaxing the ISO restrictions. Manually drag the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders.

Maybe everybody should try these Princo 4speed media first, you could be one of the smart guys who might get these discs working perfectly

  14. Ok i've gettin my mirror Discs. so if it was a media problem i shouldn't have a problem any more..

But I've just backed up my 8 mile using DVD shink, on the X4 red top data write Discs & the film has worked perfect on every DVD player.

So my Q now is. Is it really a media problem????

Could it be software or the way my computer is, that is causing these freeze ups

Or my be i just hit one lucky Disc. Im going to try another film using shrink & datawrite disc to see if it was a lucky disc

By the way, there's no need to use a transcoder to copy Con Air.

    Gotta love tiny movies.
