I have read in a guide somewhere, that version 1.76 should be used and not the current version. Why is this? What's wrong with the current version? Where can I get version 1.76?
How long does DVD2AVI take to run to frameserve a 2 hour film? Does this differ if you are Demuxing audio to separate file or downsampling to WAV?
Thnx in advance.

as for dvd2avi versions, i have no clue....but as i recall awhile back, there was a (or couple) versions of dvd2avi that had audio sync issues when forcing film....dunno if the same thing applies here.
as for frameserving time (i.e creating the .d2v project file), it completely depends on what you wanna do with the audio.
if you're gonna simply demux the AC3 audio, it should be faster, but then you would need to use an external audio encoder to encode it to MPEG-1 Layer II audio.
or
you can have dvd2avi decode the AC3 audio into .wav and load it into tmpgenc to encode. here you have 2 choices. you can either let dvd2avi downsample from 48 khz -> 44.1 khz or you can let tmpgenc do that for you. personally, i let tmpgenc do that, but some ppl have said tmpgenc does a poor job of downsampling and let dvd2avi do it. if you go that route and let dvd2avi do the downsampling, it will increase your "frameserving" time, depending on your downsample settings. the higher downsample quality you want, the longer your "frameserving" time will be.
do some test runs and see for yourself. -
I could demux the audio when ripping with SmartRipper, couldn't I? That would speed up DVD2AVI with no audio. But I suppose this would increase ripping time? I guess it's 'swings and roundabouts'!
I think the difference with the versions is that version 1.76 comes with the VFAPI plugin whereas the latest version does not! -

the easier way would be to let dvd2avi decode the AC3 into a .wav file for you. you can then load the .wav file into tmpgenc and let it encode the audio at the same time as the video. no external audio encoder needed. tmpgenc isn't the best at downsampling, so you can use dvd2avi to downsample as well, if you don't want tmpgenc to do it. of course, higher quality will increase dvd2avi time...but you get higher quality..it's up to you....dvd2avi's downsample has a range in quality you can choose from. (i.e. low, normal, good, great, etc...) -
Here is where to get 1.76 http://www.slunecnice.cz/product/DVD2AVI/
This is the version i have been using and i will never go to another version if i dont have to IMO this version is the most stable
