Hi...I want to download a movie but only one person has it on Kazaa. Then I realized that the download's name was "ShareReactor" and did some reaction and downloaded eDonkey2000. I am currently downloading the episode using that. But, I don't get it and have several questions:

Do the many uploads slow down downloading speed? Because I can't cancel the uploads and my download is going slowly. I have my maximum download/upload speed at 0 which means unlimited. Also, what happens to the download if I switch it to "high priority"? My download speed used to be 17+ but now it's dropped to 4.7! It takes so long!

  2. Uploads do not effect download speeds, if you set it to high priority it will have prioriy over other files you may be downloading. Remember your download speed is dependant on how many people are uploading what their upload speed is and how many other users are downlading the same file. So your download speed is bound to vary.

Since I'm downloading 2 files, should I set them both at high priority? Does it make them go faster? The speed is at 1 to 2...

  4. No it won't make them both go faster.

This is definitely the eDonkey2000 network's biggest fault. That, and queue slots.

really??? for adsl (i.e. 1.5 mbit/224 kbit)....uploading severely drops the download speed. so far, only the SDSL i've used didn't have that problem, but SDSL is built more for uploading, as the up/down speed is the same...at ~200 KB/s

I was downloading fine with a speed of about 19 (yup!) with only 2 more hours to go! But then it went all the way to 0.0 and now it is "Looking". Why is that?! Since I'm downloading 2 files at a time, does it affect the speeds? I also have 9 uploads. And I have my maximum upload at 5 while my maximum download is at 20...ok, my first download is now transferring again. They're both transferring at a speed of 2+. No chance to speed it up? This is the only place where I can find that file for download, Kazaa is too slow because it only has one person who has it and that person got it through here.

Well, at times the speed might shoot up to 16. I have my maximum download speed at 20 while my maximum upload speed at 5. So, 16 is the highest I've got so far. And some people say they have a speed of 100-200, I can't even imagine that... ! Anyway, I set my upload speed so low because I'm not sure how my computer might handle it. It's an old computer, probably the slowest.

Also, would it be ok if I convert using TMPGEnc while downloading on eD2K? Would it affect the download speed? Or would eD2k affect TMPGEnc? Because I have so much free time while it is downloading that I can do other stuff that takes a long time, TMPGEnc...

  13. Here is the best way to get your stuff fast on the donkey
Set your upload to 11K and your download at 200
And how much are you sharing? If you are sharing a lot of files set the priority on all file to very low except the ones you are downloading and you will get them faster.

Ok. What does "priority" mean? I thought it meant that if you put it on high, you would have a higher priority on getting the file faster meaning you get it first. Should I put it on normal since I'm not sharing much files.

Edit: It doesn't work, it won't even download, still at looking...it wasn't like this yesterday.

The problems come when you're looking for a file that only a handful of people have. And once they offline you won't have any backup people to go to. Sometimes you just gotta leave it goin' or quit.

I have a problem. I'm downloading 2 files that has about 35 queues total. But I've kept eD2K on for about several days and it won't download! Last week, it downloaded a part of it but it won't continue now. They're small files. Each file is at least 170MB. Smaller than anything else I've downloaded. Why is this so slow?! And I don't have much to upload since I got a small computer, I deleted my previously downloaded videos without thinking.

  17. Try a program called BIT TORRENT get the experimental 3.2.1b version.
Find a link for a site called SUPRNOVA.ORG choose a movie or other prog with good peer and seed ranking and you should get great downloads.
You might have to search a bit for SUPRNOVA but once you get there it's worth it.

Thanks a lot! Also, I have another problem. Sometimes when I connect, I get "firewalled" and sometimes I get "open". What does this mean? I don't have firewall programs installed. And I have used the firewall test provided by eD2K site and it says "successful". But it still says "firewalled". Anyway to get rid of that word? It still downloads and works normally, only the word is there...

  21. E D recomend that you have an OPEN title where yours is saying FIREWALLED and why it is saying this is strange and will hinder your downloads.
The only thing i can think of is are you running Windows XP?
If you are it comes with it's own firewall which will be active from installation unless disable it yourself.

No, I have Windows 2000. And the only programs I have on that MIGHT be firewall-related is Norton AntiVirus AUto-Protect.
