Hi all,
I am going to buy the Sony DRU-510A, but don't know which media to use.
I mainly wish to copy digital images to DVD discs, and also I wish to tape home movies from my mini-dv video camera to disk so I can watch them on my DVD player in the living room.
Will just buying DVD-R discs be the way to go ?
Are these by far the biggest sellers and most popular ?
anyway thanks much in advance, and sorry if this question has been asked before and is getting old.

I would say to use:
- whatever is compatible with your player
- whatever is in your price range
- whatever gives you good results.
I've got a DRU 500AX, I've thrown lots of cheap media at it, and I have yet to have a problem that's media related.
I regularly use generic cheapies from meritline.com (the ones that are $49.99 for a 50-pack) & Khypermedia (-R), and Sony (+RW) with no problems.
It's going to come down to what your player likes, what you can afford, and how picky you want to be - I don't get 4x out of my burner, because I'm not willing to pay for 4x media yet.
But don't sweat it - get a trial pack from meritline, or some singles from your local retailer, and try some out. You'll soon find a brand that works okay.- housepig

before buying any media, look up your dvd player here: https://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers
see which formats, media, and brands your dvd player supports...
you may also wanna read the user comments on your dvd player to see other ppl's experiences with the various media -
hi there, thanks to both of you for your suggestions, very good to keep in mind.
seems that DVD-r is the most popular for backup data on the computer so I'll make sure that I'll get some of those, but will try out all the formats.
