    I once wondered when we'd have to start dealing with this problem...

  2. err
    this has happened before with the TDKG020000 media code....
    ive used both counterfeit 'maxell' and 'tdk' media
    and they worked ok for me
    but i class these discs as generic, not brand media, media code is irrelevant.

    maxell media is good stuff, but at $7 a disc (au), its not cheap. Could get 2-3 generic discs for the same price.

    They are specificly talking about those very same disc I sent back to meritline, thankfully I had no real issues getting a refund, actually I just had them replaced with Riteks.

    @whoever made the disc: Shame on you
    @Maxell: Go get 'em!

    I just purchased maxell's at a huge price cut from:

    http://www.allmediaoutlet.com

    They preformed like Princo (shit) disks. They would allow me to burn at 2x but when I tried to play them my stand alone DVD player wouldn't play them and the data couldn't even be read by my dvd-r. They burn fine at 1x but they have terrible end of disk burn errors.

    I have tryed maxell's that I bought from Best Buy in the past and the burned at 2x just fine.

    It's a good thing I was a little skeptical about the price and only bought 25 just to test them out.

    A very good thing, those are the same disc I had. The strange part is I have a fiend who got a batch himself and kept him. Not a single problem out of 100 disc so far (and he's almost out of them!) I even took one home and burned it myself, it worked great and it was the same knock off disc from the same online store. To make it stranger we even have the same burner in the same external case on fairly like minded computer setups. We also burn with the same software! Strange? Heck yeah, but it happened somehow his worked fine.

    That's because, obviously, he's in league with the devil <g>.

    Now, if you ever had a *friend* who had the same luck, that would be an entirely different thing.

    I've had a bunch of Maxells. They burned fine. They played in a couple standalones fine. One glitch,or should I say several, re-occuring ones? EVERYONE had one second freezes of the image toward the end end of the disc.(passed the 3.8 Gig mark) They were and are still going cheap in my town. About $1.60 U.S for singles,(2x) cheaper for 50 pack. That doesn't mean you shouldn't avoid them. I say like the plauge. I've had much better results with Princo.

    Also I can personally vouch for the fact that the REAL Maxells are top knotch disc, never had a problem with one, its just the knock offs that suck so much.
