Hello all. I know this topic has nothing to do with DVD-Rs or anything of the like, but it is video related in a sense. I hope someone here has the answer to this problem.
I have a 21" Sony Monitor that has a problem with blurring. Everytime i turn it on it's crystal clear and everything is viewable perfectly fine. But after a few minutes the monitor gets very blurry and stays that way. At first i thought it was just my eyes but infact it wasn't. The problem is fixed if i turn off the monitor and then turn it back on again, but then 3 mins later it blurs again and stays that way.
I tried to degauss but that did not fix the problem. If anyone has any solution to this problem it would be grealty appreciated as this is a very expensive monitor! Any suggestions at all will be of great assitance. Thanks!

If it's still under warranty, take it back.
If it's out of warranty, I think you have a problem with a heat sensitive component. Back in the old days, when they were user repairable, they advised spraying the proper component, usually a capacitor, with an aerosol cooling agent. Frequency sensitive capacitors, I think. If cooling brought it under control, that was the bad component, replace.
With all the surface mounted components today, it is difficult for a user to repair ANYthing. -
It's definately out of warranty and opening it up myself is out of the question. I was just wondering if maybe there was a simple solution that i was missing. But that's a lot of good info you just gave me...good to know. i guess i'm just out of luck then. kinda sucks.

Perhaps you have been watching too much porn on your computer...

it's not the video card because even when the video cable is unplugged and the monitor is on it shows "no signal detected" and even that blurs out after a little while. any other suggestions?

Philly,
I crashed Netscape before when I tried to send a reply.
Most TV repair shops can fix monitors, as they are nothing more than TVs with no tuner.
Most of them allow you to bring in a unit for a no charge, minimal charge, diagnisis.
Most, also, have a CD of the most frequent causes of failure of any particular unit.
If you take yours to an up to date shop, all he has to do is search your specific model to see what has been the most frequent failure, and repair it.
Should not be terribly expensive, way less than getting another humongus monitor such as yours. -
gmatov: that's true...i am actually in the pittsburgh area so do you have any suggestions to where i would be able to take it?

Have you moved any speakers or other electronic devices near the monitor lately? I've seen magnets or speakers that are not shielded cause bluring in monitors.

Ducatti,
Magnetic interference does not take a couple minutes to start affecting a monitor. The guy I talked to says it sounds as though a frequency sensitive capacitor is failing, an old thing from TV land 20-30 years ago.
Too bad it happens with a 21 inch Sony instead of an 80 buck 17, pitch them , replace. -
Ahh.. you're right.. I wasn't paying complete attention to his post. That's what I get for reading this page after a flight to Portland...
