  1. Our company has one of these ancient second-gen drives:

    http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/Pioneer/CDA/Industrial/IndustrialProductDetails/0,1444,797,00.html

Which I'm sure costed them about $5000+ when they bought it (sick!). We have no media for it - its definitely DVD-R of course - and from what I've read it only accepts specific media as listed on Pioneer's site...all of which is going for like $10+ for a single dvd-r! Crazy...what's up with the prices for this sucker?

Anyway - just curious if anyone knows if other media, like any of the usual $2/disc brands, will work ok with this burner.

    Thx...

thanks guysm and i'll keep that in mind BJ_M...

just to clarify, what's the major difference between DVD-R and Authoring DVD-R...from what I've read so far:

    1) Authoring DVD-R's were in the past used as the only means of making masters for duplication companies (though that has changed quickly in the past year) and

    2) They can contain (copy?) encryption information in similarity to that found on today's hit movies. Consumer DVD recordables can not retain nor record this encryption information.

Feel free to make corrections / additions - thx!
