    Hi all,
I want to convert a .avi file with a frame rate of 23 fps to a DVD compliant file with VOBs and chapters.
I aim to use TMPG to convert the .avi and then import it into DVD MF2 to author.
I'm keen to produce a smooth end product so the fps issue is the key problem for me.

Any help or advice would be appreciated..

    Thx

  2. Is it 23 or 23.97, 23.97 is NTSC film.

Yeah, I'm guessing its 23.976fps but even if it is 23, you still need to encode to 23.976fps either way. Just set this as your output fps and in the encode mode option on the video tab, select the 3:2 pulldown while playback option. This is how almost all commercial NTSC DVDs are encoded, at 23.976fps with pulldown flags so that it gets played back at the NTSC required framerate of 29.97fps.

I have converted in TMPG with pulldown as suggested and have got a file size of just over 4 gig, but when I import it into DVD MF 2 it shows the file size as over 4.7 gig (4,094,610 kb)!...how come ??.
If I carry on will DVD MF 2 re-encode the bitrate to reduce the file size for me. I tried the bitrate in Mpeg settings in the options tab but this changes nothing regarding the file size.

    Help please...........Thx

  6. In DVD MF, there should be a setting for audio type. It usually defaults to PCM, this is uncompressed and takes up loads of space. Change it to use mp2 audio, this is waht you have in the mpeg file.

Warning tho, mp2 audio is not supported by some US DVD players.

Cheers, I have now changed that and created my VOBs with no problems.
Would MF2 have re-encoded the file size if I carried on or would it have created an oversize file which would be no use to me at-all ??.

    Thanks again
