  2. Thanks!...but I am a complete newbie and don't understand any of those programs, plus I already messed up my computer with all these programs....they were conflicting with each other, is there a simple way of doing it using one program?

sorry, not to convert .avi -> DVD compliant MPEG2. the important thing to make sure is that the files you convert into must be DVD compliant. nero express will only recognize DVD VIDEO files...

As others have mentioned you are going to have to bite the bullet and learn a few new software packages if you want those AVI files to play on a DVD player.

Give TMPGEnc a try to convert the AVI to a DVD format. Use the Wizard if necessary and I'm sure you will get a compliant DVD. Next step is authoring the DVD. Again a new software package is needed. I'm using TMPG DVD Author. Rather straight forward to use...not a lot of bells and whistles, so with a little practice you should be able to author a simple DVD. Later on as you get more comfortable with the software you can get more fancy with the menus and chapters.

Try a package and give it a chance before giving up and moving on. If you keep changing software you are going to have to keep on learning. Not all of this stuff is easy...takes time and practice. DVD RW's are also very helpful when practicing.

  7. What you are doing is convert AVI to DVD. Well, there is no short cut, you will have to go thru all the steps we have been thru. It's fun though.

  8. How can I get it to fit onto a dvd+r...the file is too big?
Is it possible to get multiple films onto 1 dvd-r?
And finally is there a way of burning a film on 1 cd-r...not too worried about quality?

encode at lower bitrate...quality will suffer, but you have no choice if you wanna fit on 1 DVD disc...however, you can split it to 2 discs.

yes, but you need to make them fit....quality will suffer because you will need to encode at lower bitrate to make multiple films fit on 1 DVD disc.

HELL NO. even VCD, one of the lowest quality formats that you can play on a DVD player, usually requires 2 CDs. SVCDs are higher quality versions of VCDs, and decent quality usually requires around 2-3 CDs, maybe more...depending on the length of the movie. so, fiting 1 entire movie (unless it's under 40-50 min. long) to 1 CD will severly lower the quality.

  10. OK...Thanks...I think i've finally got it....the lower the bitrate the smaller the size of the file....okey dokey I shall try that
