  1. i have a WMP9 file that requires a licence from the internet. It runs OK, but when i try to use STOIK to convert it barfs saying cant open file. If i use windows encoder it moans about the licence. Is there anyway around this? or can i remove the licence request?

  2. The reason the licence is there is so you can't illegally copy the file you download as it is not a file you own. Yes, there is a way round this but in the interests of the forum rules (and myself) I think this would be in breach of them. Unless a moderator says it is okay to discuss this post.

  3. thanks,

silly thing is i do own the file, the guys who did my companys website (i no longer deal with them) they encoded it. Im now trying to convert it to use in a corporate video we are producing. I dont have another copy and they want ££££££££££££ to do it for me

  4. Well, if you own it. In Windows Media Player go to the burn CD setting as some licences let you burn it to a disc a certain number of times and try burning it then copy it back from the CD and try to encode. This worked before with an audio file but this was because it re-encodes to a wave before it burns it. I hope this helps in some way, although it probably won't work for video.

People discuss ripping DVD's all day long here, what's the difference? You can't rip a DVD without cracking it's protection.

Thats because you own DVD's that you rip. Remember you can download videos illegally from the internet.

  8. He said he owned it., that said I could download DVD images from the internet too, or rent them or whatever and it's still illegal to copy even DVD's you own, well according to DMCA anyway. I think it's a bad law, but it's still a law...
