is there any video players out there that play all of the common formats? for example: wmv, mpg, avi, quicktime, realplayer, etc..? would this even be legal? perhaps it violates some type of copyright law? any info on this would be awsome... thanks!

  2. i'm sure if you hack the xbox enough, you can play all those formats, or at least a bunch of them..since the xbox is basically a small computer.

otherwise, they have those really small computer cases where you can build yourself a mini-computer...all you would need is a vid card w/ TV out and you got yourself a universal player....

  3. There is a number of stand-alones that have been announced that will apparently play DivX and XVid encoded videos. Nobody yet knows however how they actually perform. MPG files can be played if converted to VCD or SVCD by most DVD players. As for Quick Time and Real Player video, I don't believe any brand will ever take so much trouble to try it, not to mention agree with Apple and Real on legal matters...

I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

    that's the big question.

    1) gonna be expensive....at least more so than even a dual format DVD burner.

    2) legal implications??? at least currently, no commercial, legal versions of movies being released and sold as divx.

    3) will they have some sort of firmware update that allows you to play different versions of divx and other .avi files??...there's so many to even list here. it would be bad if you have a .avi file and find out it couldn't play in your divx player because it wasn't encoded with the right version of divx.
