Hi
I would like input as to what are the best dvd copy programs to use.
I'm a newbie and I am stumped at which one to choose.
Puter has a 2.6 ghz Pentium 4 512 ram ...
I tried the trial version of dvd copy xpress.. and that one seems good. Is there a way to try out different software with out actually burning to see which one is best? Thanks for any input.

yeah, go to their respective websites and download the demos. If its freeware, then you can get it in the tools section to the left.

There is no 'best' software, although there are bad programs out there no one program is the best. Personally opinion really varies. I for example think that Nero is worth about as much as a bag of warm hampster crap, but people seem to like it (the newest verison fixed a lot of problems).
Personally I burn with IMGTools & DVD Decrytper. I use IMGTools to make an iso image of the VIDEO_TS folder (~3min), then burn that image with DVD Decrypter. Both programs are freeware (http://www.doom9.org)
Other popular choices include: Record Now, Record Now Max, Nero, and DVDxCopy. -
just do a simple search on these forums for transcoders....many ppl have done tests with the various transcoders/encoders for DVD-R/+R from commerical DVD9 discs...
usually, it's a compromise between quality and speed. usually, a proggie that produces better quality tends to be slower.
i personally like DVDshrink because it's free and often the fastest among the various transcoders.... however, based on various tests, it seems that DVDshrink's quality isn't that good compared with other (and slower) transcoders..thou the difference is very small, but may be noticeable to some ppl. -
Better still, have a look at the front page of this web-site: currently, there is a link under the guides section to Copying DVDs, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
It pretty much says everything there is to say on the matter.
As for my own opinion, I have both DVD2ONE and InstantCopy - I stopped using Instant Copy a week after I bought it.Regards,

Hello,
Use these links, you can download here to.
Start with Smart ripper, this rips the disc to your hard drive, then use DVD2one this compresses the full disc or the movie, (you decide) to a size that will fit a 4.7g DVD. Then use CopyToDVD to burn. The full process takes less than one hour to create a backup if you burn at 4 speed.
I hope this helps

Note: Smart ripper is very easy to use (that’s why I suggest it) but a bit dated if it has problems ripping new discs use DVDDecrypter it’s up to you.

Ok will check those out, I have red that article thats how I found out about dvd x copy express. Really easy to use. Wont touch nero since I had problems with it in the past doing vcds. So I gues I'll just have to experiment. Will definately try out DVD2One and maybe instant copy.
Thanks for the input!! -
I personally like DVD Shrink because it's real easy and a lot of my compatibily issues are gone when using DVD Shrink to do MOVIE ONLY.
However, sometimes I like to keep the menu or the movie is very long and it requires a lot of transcoding then I would use IC7.
I normally would only go about 5% to 15% compression in DVD Shrink. If I need to go beyond 15% of compression in DVD Shrink then I would use IC 7.
Just make sure you standalone player plays IC7 transcoded DVD's as when you use the hack to remove the unwanted stuff in IC7 it ruins the IFO which makes it unplayable on some DVD Players.
