Help Please

I have a really good quality wmv file.
After I converted it in to avi file , the picture quality isnt as good as the wmv. How do i make it good quality picture? Please help me.

I found that if I use TMPGEnc and select the higher templates, like DVD or SVCD, then encode to AVI, the end product looks better.

Can you give me instructions on how to do that please thnks for post.

1. Load your video into TMPGEnc.

2. Select Load, and choose a DVD template, and select OK.

3. Select File-->Output to File...-->AVI.

4. Choose Video Settings to select your favorite AVI codec.

5. Name your output file and select Save.

When I try to Load the video it said "Illegal stream format" what does that means? I cant get to load . Help please.

If you have trouble open WMV files
Try and rename it to .asf and open it. If that doesn't help try to change the directshow codec reader priority settings in TMPGEnc under Option->Environmental settings->VFAPI plug-in and right click on the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader and increase the priority to 1 or 2 or to the top of plugin-list and try open the video.
