I have one of those too. Some war footage. It plays fine, but cannot be converted because of the error. Fixes fail.

i found a way to fix this
    1. the file was an asf but was named as .avi
    2. i got a renamer program and renamed it to .asf
    3. i opened it with asf tool and fixed the lost chucks
    4. then used virtual dub(oldversion)to encode to divx avi

Glad you found it, but that doesn't solve my problem. Mine is an ASF that is named file.asf.

I'm not familiar with "asf tool". Is that the name of the program? A google serach turned up nothing for that.

The two ASF repair tools on this site do not work for me.
