    Hi there,

We all know that Windows Media Player does not come with MPEG-2 Decoding Filters... Therefor when you go to play a SVCD MPEG file it attempts to access the microsoft servers and download the appropriate codec for you... in my case this is never successful ?

What i was wondering thou... Is instead of Installing third party software such as PowerDVD or WinDVD which installs the appropriate filters to play these files, is there some downloadable filters or small installation program or something that will allow playback of MPEG-2 with Windows Media Player instead of installing a whole third party package to be able to achieve this... ????

I actually found a small zip file on the net i stumbled across that contained the PowerDVD MPEG-2 filters with a small batch file that when run registers the filters with windows media player .. thus being able to play the movies.... although this was not successfull under WindowsXP for me.

For futher technical details read on:

The two PowerDVD filers are called

    CLAUD.AX
    CLVSD.AX

The batch file reads the following

    regsvr32 /s claud.ax
    regsvr32 /s clvsd.ax

Is there a command line that will need to be changed or added for WinXP ????

I hope someone can figure out a solution or share on where to get these installable filters off the net.

    Regards,

    hTK

regsvr32.exe is a program used by Win98 to register certain files such as *.dll and *.ax with the OS (Win98 )
    Does regsvr32.exe exist on XP?
Try searching for it.(in Win98 it resides in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\)
If it doesnt exist then you will have to try and find its equivalent - if there is one.
If it does exist, then put the batchfile in the same directory as regsvr32.exe and run it. The /s switch hides the message boxes it produces so I would delete the /s switches from each line in the batchfile. Also, put the .ax files in the same dir as the batchfile.
    I hope that this works.
