1. Latest ATI MultiMedia Center (MMC) 8.5.0.0 has totally new build
structure. Therefore it is imposible at this moment to disable MacroVision
protection, which has been implemented 'internally' to the software (no more
drivers to patch).
None currently existing patch/crack fixes this nuisance yet.

And of course if you don't capture from any MV-protected sources, this
warning does not concern you.
2. If you need to use software dvd player on your PC, new MMC8.5 has it
build-in (no separate insall as it used to be before). *But* you have to
have one of the latest ATI cards, otherwise dvd player won't be installed
without prior order of CD-ROM from ATI for about $15 (installer will ask
you first to insert appropriate cd-rom).
None currently existing patch/crack solve this problem yet.

3. VideoSoap in general:
MMC 8.5 has lots of new great features (primarily "video soap" set of
filters) making it worth to upgrade to - providing you won't be affected by
one of above problems.
Video Soap set to medium during capture on a Pentium4, 2400MHz, 512MB RAMBUS
RAM, does excellent job even on oldest ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon 7200 card
(see my samples page). But computers with lesser processing power cannot
benefit from it much. In my other tests on machine with Pentium4 1600MHz
setting VideoSoap to medium caused dropped frames, but setting it to light
worked OK. Computer with AMD AthlonXP 2200 processor, 1GB DDR RAM, had a
hard time keeping up framerate even with light VideoSoap settings (at
dvd-specs), but I believe it is due to lack of SSE2 support at all in AMD
processors.

Nice features, but be wary of software that has 5 updates within 2 months. It went from 8.0 to 8.5 in a VERY short time.I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored. -
When I try to capture some store bought tapes the playback looks good untill you realize that every 10 to 30 seconds the brightness level shifts up or down just a bit. You could easily not notice it but once you do it is maddening. Is this the result of macrovision. I have an AIW Radeon 7500 and am running the latest MMC software.
I ran the macrovsion tool that is included with Stinky reg tool and I renamed Atitvo32.dll to atitvo32.bak. -

Where would that samples page be? I couldn't find any links to it anywhere...
I apologize for missing the URL. This forum post is actually a copy of usenet group post, where URL is present in my signature. -
This thing refuses to install on my system. ATI MMC 8.5 will not install at all. It FAILS MISERABLY each time. I quit.
But I was able to get up to ATI MMC 8.1, so I guess that's better than nothing (which is what I had for about 2 hours).
I've got an ATI All In Wonder Radeon DDR32 card (7200). I just bought a ATI AIW Radeon 7000 card off eBay for $75, so maybe it'll work on my new Win2K system when the card comes in the mail.
The failed install of 8.5 destroyed my registry, and it took Norton WinDoctor about 20 minutes to fix it. It took another 2 hours to get ATI MMC 8.1 to get on there properly.
I'm not so sure the videosoap was even worth it. All the filters look the same. Some of the custom capture settings are nice though. I'll be updating my guide again now. And it does appear to be better than 7.7 at first glance, better than my 8.0 experience (nightmare).
So if you have an old card on WinME, you may not want to put up with this 8.5 headache. Wait for 8.6 or higher.
And if you're thinking "he just did something wrong", trust me, I tried for 10 hours straight. All possible combinations, and scouring the web for any information anywhere. I quit on 8.5.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

I'd also be interested in a fix for this Macrovision problem. It's extremly frustating when trying to archive tapes that will NEVER be on official DVD, ala Non Special Edition Star Wars Trilogy.
Or just trying to archive sequals on a low quality disc, so you can get a trilogy of movies like Ninja Turtles onto one disc for easy viewing.. -
when capturing tape's that get bright and dark that's MacroVision you can get a Sima Video Copymaster for $50.00 but at best buy that will fix the problem. Want to update I use my Sima copy master to get MacroVision I got a warning say this signal is copy protected. And I had a big lip sync problem. I'm going back to MMC 8.1. I have a AMD 1.8 and I capture VideoSoap on heavy no problem. I put on the second set of filter's I can only capture with combo filter one not combo filter two I drop arounf 50 to 60 frame's but combo filter one work's great. MMC 8.1 I think is the best one so far. I just did anther test with one other tape with MMC 8.1 I still get the warnung sign this signal is copy protected. I have had this with 7.6
