    hi ive used my geforce mpeg card to transfer a vhs movie which is in black and white and made it into a pal dvd then used TMPGEN to convert it to a vob.anyway it works great but i notice on dark areas of the screen blocking type effect like an artifact,is it possible to get rid of this or is it just the way dvd works

    My first thought would be that the bitrate on your encoded MPEG is to low. MPEG2 doesn't really do all that great with really dark scences. However, given that your source is VHS it's a tough call.

    What bitrate/settings did you use to encode your MPEG2 file?
