I need a lot of disc-space to rip a DVD to VCD (too much..!!)
Can I rip only the half DVD first (selecting half the chapters) and convert it and burn it and then do the samen with the other half..?? Or do I get unvalid files doing that..???

Hey burnxx,
You shouldn't get invalid files doing that and should be fine.
However, if disk space is an issue, head over to the tools section on this site and follow the links to DVDx. It'll rip right from the DVD and create your mpeg on the fly.
It may be a little rough on the dvd rom but it'll keep you going until you can fork over $60-$70US for a 20gb drive. -
Thanks for your reply..!!
How about the quality..Do I get a better quality encoding with smartripper and TMPGenc. or is it more or less the same....?? -
Hard to compare, since smartripper is a dvd decrypter and TMPG is a MPEG encoder. Be more specific.

you'll get the best quality out off TMPGEnc. DVDx doesn't even comes close to the quality of it.
I suggest you wait a couple of days because I have just sent the site addminastrators an e-mail with a tutorial I created that lets you use TMPGEnc to encode without having to rip the files to hard drive.
I only dream in black & white...
