  1. Sorry I don't have a site to link to a picture of the CD so you will have to take my word on this. I did my first print to a printable CDR so that I wouldn't mess up a DVDR and I must say the result is friggin unbelievable. The quality looks ever bit as good as any commercial printed CD or DVD IMO. I needed a new printer anyway so I'm now very pleased I spent the $200 for this printer. My old printer was an Epson Stylus 600 and I gave that to one of my employees.

I should also say that this is the quietest printer I have ever used. The first test printing I did I thought the printer was not responding and had to walk over to it to hear it was working.

The printer comes with a special thin plastic tray with a place to hold the CDR or DVDR. You feed this try straight through the printer from the back of the printer.

  6. PaulDiston: Unfortunately yes, epson 900 seems to be the most affordable option for this as well. Saving up for one myself. Can't trust normal labels coz they satrt to peel off and make the disc stick while playing...which is handy!

Bob W: Let us know how the dvdr printables work for you - probably wise i get as much info before shelling out for the printer..... 8)

I had posted recentyl about the epson 900. I had also posted about buying 400 Ritek Printables. Well, as it turns out, they were Lead Data. They work awesome. While limited to 2X , they play on everything I throw them at.

The printer works awesome and I have found away around the mited software they give you. I prefer my click and design 3d software that I used to use for labels. What I do is create exactly what I want on click and design 3d. I then save it as a GRAPHIC, printer resolution.

Then I open Epson CD and import that graphic . Viola, I now have the CD/DVD image I want. I just have to align on screen sometimes.

Then I print using advanced. I set the image darker +2. I set for best photo, Photo enhance, then under advanced tab, set to VIVID , and slide to the right for the max. This is to get around the tendency it has to print lighter.

You are right, the DVD's look factory made...awesome. Best purchase I made. I paid 199 but I see it is in te 160 range in some places.

  8. If I hadn't bought a great new photo printer a few months ago, I would be all over this Epson!

  9. I had a chance to get this printer @ $160 after rebate. so tempting but i'll stick to sticky labels for now. I'll get it when I can get it for ~$70

  10. From everything I've read on this and other treads, this printer does a very good job. I've checked and I can't find any after market ink cartridges for it. Buying Epson cartridges must be very $$$$$.

The Epson Stylus Photo 900 uses the same Ink cartridges as the Stylus Photo 1270 & 1280. You can find many on-line retailers selling generic cartridges for these models (Meritline, Shop4Tech, etc.)

  13. Got an epson 900 last week, I was looking to get the 950, but at £300-350
I gave up and thought leave it for now?, but walked into a known superstore and found the 900 on display and my credit card took the shock of £200 ,but must say the printing is fantastic, can now made better looking dvd covers than the original ones , works out about 0.6p a disc so they say???

  14. I also recently got the Epson Photo 900. If you do some shopping around, you may get lucky. I got mine from Dell SB last week for $142 shipped (including tax). Now, after I find the 30pk of printable CDR's and buy them, Epson will give me another $30 back.

The printer comes w/ one printable CDR, which I plan to try this weekend. I've already ordered some printable DVD-R's and I'm excited about my deal.

I've read another post earlier about inkjet printing to disks and people using some kind of clear spray to keep the ink from smearing...anyone know about this?

  15. the spray your talking about is a clear lacquer, its to shop fadding and dirty fingers prints etc... being left on the disc, not tried it yet but going to??!

  17. i was just wondering if it is nesesary to buy special printable discs, and if you do, are they expensive or hard to find? do they have slower burn speed capabilities? and are they lower quality media, like made by no name companies? personally i have never seen these printable cdrs in stores so im wondering if you must order them?

  18. I've not tried the printer myself, but I red a review in a PC magazine and it said the quality is superb other than the prints being slightly too dark and/or dull... Way too expensive for me

  19. the answer is yes ,you must use printable disc's, tried a normal non-branded white top disc, and it didn't dry after a week???, had put it in my dvd player and the bloody ink went flying off!!!!!!!!
i found most stores don't stock printable's but lookon the net you'll find loads, at the moment i am using a printable disc x1 (but writer burns these at x2,with firmware update) called octoplus ,from uk dvdr easy to find on the net about 99p a disc work very well, no coasters yey over a 100 burnt

The trick is that the image is less than 50k, and follow the instructions in the Upload Image (Optional) section when posting, also I think the filename must not contain any spaces.

Yes you get everything you need including the CDR/DVDR tray and label software. It takes about two minutes to print a CDR (full image in color) and the quality is top notch IMO.

Falberni, Shop4tech has generic cartridges for the Epson Stylus Photo 950. That's if we are talking about the same printer. You only call the Epson printer the 950 in your post. The cartridges list for $7.99 each. I have posted the direct link to the web page below.
