  2. Right now I have about 12 movies and tv series. I am converting old Audie Murphy movies (doing Battle at Bloody Beach right now). I also have a few older war movies. I am going to work on the tv series Rawhide, Wagon Train, Wanted Dead or Alive, and The Rebel. These are mostly from vhs tapes but some from directv via a replaytv unit.

I am always looking for better source material and constantly look at ebay for that. I just store them in plastic cases right now. I do put labels on them and have found little problem with that.

Anyone interested in trades one for one?

careful... trading backups it piracy, and would fall under the "warez" prohibition.

    - Putney Swope
    - The Haunting (1963)

  4. Sorry about that, I guess that you are right but I can't see why it would be since no money is being exchanged. Beside some of these are out of print and hard to find. Anyway thanks for the heads up and I will try and avoid repeating that mistake again.

  7. I've been recording on VHS since about 1985. I had (Past tense) about 2300 movies recorded in EP mode, off cable. Poor quality. Got my Sat. dish in 1995, and built up a new batch to about 1400.

Got my first Cap. device (Dazzle) and have 800 movies on CD.

Last Mar., I got my TV@nywhere, and now have 140 DVD's capped from Sat.

As for faves, I have many. One of my all time faves is the original "Walt Disney's Incredible Journey". War, Drama, and thrillers round out my faves.

No, sorry. This is still considered piracy as you do not own the copyright for the show allowing you to trade or sell it. In fact in the UK you are by law only supposed to keep recordings off the TV for 2 weeks.

  11. cool sorry.

2 weeks really??? i'd really love to meet a guy getting a fine for not erasing a vhs tape of So Graham Norton for 3 weeks or now with DVD-R's, not destroying his copy... that oughta suck

  12. It's one of those silly laws that exists, but no-one adheres to and as such is basically unenforcable. Same as recording off the radio.

I have over a 100 DVD Movie titles, and a stock pile of VHS Movies and
    TV recordings.

I don't backup my DVD's as I used too. I have way too many crummy
backup's of these from my pre-video endeavor days (the good old days
of starting out) Anyways.. but most of my encodings for CDR's are based
from TV captures. Hobby of mine since the my early days of DVC I usb.

I also do lots (or shall I say, tons) of encoding experiments.. again, it's my
hobby (and entertainment) weather it be DVD or TV captures, I spend lots
of my time encoding, debuggin, perfecting and learning and so on and so forth 8)

Another goal of mine I started thinking about doing soon, is 3Triligies. You
know.. those 3-some Movies ie, Austin Powers. I ahave all three DVDs.
My goal is to put them on ONE DVDR disk.. and many other 3thriligies.

In the mean time, I'm having so much fun w/ my hobby.. thanks to VCDHELP and gang !! :P

I have about 150-200 DVD's. About 50-100 SVCD, and approx. 100 DVD-R's. VHS......who cares. Maybe 10 that I have not replaced on DVD yet.

    Favorite's.........

    Matrix
    The hunt for Red October
    Star trek TNG series
Sopranos sea. 1-3. 4 was kinda crappy except for a couple. Hoping 5 & 6 will have a strong comeback.

Many more I love but I think I could watch these more often and enjoy them.

Only about 3 dozen DVDs, but 150 or so VHS waiting to vacate the storage area under my TV, so damn hard to find what you want, so easy to over-record. What's worse than watching an hour 25 of an hour 30 movie, and seguing into cartoons?
Have backed 'em up in various ways, lotsa burnt disks, some ways good, some ways bad. Not bad, bad. Better than good VHS recordings Some better, some worse than my commercial VHS.
    Yorel,
How good do you find the output of your TV@nywhere? I think it's better than the PCTV, WinTV, Maxronn BT8XXX based cards, but it just might be me.
What do you cap to, 1/2 DVD? Or preset Good, Better, Best?

I find TV@nywhere better than the Dazzle was. Can't compare to anything else, as I've used nothing else.

I've set up a bunch of templates based on DVD full, but varied the bitrate to fit a predetermined time (IE: length of movie) to fit on the 4.1 GB that TV@nywhere allows. A bitrate of 4200 will give me approx. 2 hours and 2 minutes. I've set up 17 templates. I'll no longer drop below a bit rate of 3800, as the quality suffers too much.Any thing longer than 2 hours and 25 min., I put on 2 DVD's now.

    Yorel,
Not to hijack, but I was unaware you could set the bitrate. There are a dozen or so presets that cover almost any circumstance, but would like to know where the bitrate can be set. Will have to go into it more thoroughly. The card is easy to install, get up and running, no? Much easier than the PCTV a couple cards back, and the Hauppage card never did work correctly.

Very easy to install, and works with WinXP perfectly.

Varing the bitrate is also, so very easy. Click on the wrench, select "Record", then click on "Profiles". There, you'll see where to "Create" a profile. Select a bitrate and call it My DVD 4500 (Where 4500 is the bitrate you selected.

Select your newly created profile, and start recording. Should be about 1:55 when it starts the second file. I keep my capture disk open on my desktop, under MSIPVS, but where I can see a second file started. Stop it, and open the first part in TMPEGEnc, and get your total time. Modify your profile by replacing the 4500 with your time. When you see a movie that's 1:54 long, select My DVD 1:55, and capture.

    Yorel,
I be go to hell. I just read your post, brought up PVS and followed your directions, and damn, there it is.Thanks a million.
Hell's bells, the card is even better than I've been preaching. There is a show locally, this weekend, which I will attend ( I have an annual membership, so if I don't go, it tends to cost me more per trip, and if I only need CD envelopes, or some ink, it costs me more than if I go every show.) Anyhow, I just may buy another for the other machine, as my cable goes either throught the Digital box or straight through the cable, no digital, hence, cap 2 shows at once.
Thanks again. Ain't this a great site. Someone knows everything, maybe not the same people, but someone....

I lived in the U.K. for 5 years and they taxed my garden hose I had hooked up to my house. You can legally only keep recorded TV shows for two weeks? I guess they also still have the TV tax license for color TVs too, or else the mobile van will still fine you right? That's why I live in the U.S. and not in the U.K. I have 274 movies in my collection, mostly War and Comedy. I find great enjoyment in both. My favorite is the Band of Brothers Series.

    Craig,
As an aside, I would like, someday, to compare taxes. I maintain that you pay a whole bunch of "nuisance" taxes that we take for granted. Mebbe not, but it strikes me most when ******** say, "Well, they pay 5 USD a gallon for gas, over there, we only pay a buck 40." Someone is screwing us all. Like to take this up in an appropriate thread. We ( the US ) cannot be the only ones being screwaed. But then, you had the Iron Maiden, and soon followed up with Field Marshall Blair, didn't you. Do you think he might have fibbed a little? Twice, now, counting the "genocide" in Kosovo, which he insisted "we" had to go into. You Brits are so gullible. But so are 90% of us.

This doesn't pertain to people in Europe, but for us folks in the US, I found this. As per the FAQ on Fox's website, it answers the following question (this is not a direct quote, but close enough):

Can I purchase a copy of a show aired by Fox?

Answer: No, but you can borrow a copy of a recorded show from a family member, co-worker, or friend.

The site doesn't differentiate between analog and digital recordings, so by Fox's own words, their shows are fair game to trade (um, I mean borrow) whether it be on vhs or dvd.

  27. Well it does say borrow, you can also borrow DVD's from family and friends. This does not mean that you can make copies of them and trade them though.

  28. Around 260+ DVD's, 200+ VHS, 400+ from Sat. Did have more but storage is a bummer. Favourite movie othe than all Star Wars + Matrix has got to be Dune + Forrest Gump.

Concerning exchanging backups - the only exception is when both parties have an original copy. You can make 1 backup for another party as long as they have the original. You can charge for doing it but only for the materials used and labour. Not everybody can make backups but everyone is entitled under copyright to be able to have backups.

Rule of thumb seems to be - keep your backups to yourself and you should be ok. 8)

Oh, absolutely, that is exactly what a video store does, let you "borrow" their copy, for a fee of course. I was just pointing to the fact of it not saying anything about "2 weeks" or the sort. Guess I should've been a little more clear, no biggie though.

  30. all I wanted is to find some people that know how to capture good quality mpeg 2s and see if they happened to have good quality captures of some tv shows i like and missed, i just thought this would be a good place to meet these people. i'm sorry if i made the moderator/s mad. but since it's not allowed here, does anybody know of a caht room/ furom/ whatever that was made for that purpose?
