my line of work exposes my PS2 to many children of varying age.... already ToyStory2, Frogger, and NHL2002 have been scratched beyond the system able to recognize the disc.

is there anyway to back-up my purchased PS2 games?

any advice would be greatly appreciated!

btw- from past experience, i figured if there was a think-tank anywhere with the people to answer this question- it's here.... and i was under the impression PS2 discs were DVD's

    thanks in advance!

I haven't got a DVD burner but I've got a DVD rom drive. I have experimented ripping PS2 disks to .ISO files using DVD Decrypter and it seems to work. Is it just a matter of burning that .ISO file and it will work fine in a PS2 if it's chipped?

using dvd decrypter to copy ps2 games to iso works fine just burn back the iso with dvd decryter and play in your modded ps2...... nero express should also work fine (although i havent tried it coz i use the dvd decrypter method) but you still need a modchip fitted to play the copies

google search brings up lots of broken links, and the rest are all paysites for hacking PS2, BOX, etc.

First of all, find a reputable mod installer. I used precisionmods.com. Get the Mesiah2. You will need to send your PS2 to them to be modded. This will cost apprx $150 with all the shipping.

When you get your PS2 back you will be able to play all PSX and PS2 backups. You really need to get a DVD burner if you don't have one. I paid $400 for mine and it's a 1x. DVD Burners are pretty cheap right now.

There are other half assed methods to play backups. I've even heard of people splitting DVDs to several CDs but it's not worth it. Just get the Messiah2 and you will be able to do a disc to disc copy in 5-15 minutes (with a 4x burner)

And yes, a mod chip does require soldering. A good mod-chip has many tiny wires that need to be soldered. This is NOT a job for an amatuer.
Unless you are a soldering wizard with a heat sink and all the other necessary tools I would not attempt it. You are better off paying a professional. There is a "no-solder mod chip", but it a useless piece of junk.

    Either way, good luck.
