US digital camcorder for use in Europe

Hi everybody,

A quick question about digital camcorder.
I live in Belgium and I have the opportunity to receive a digital camcorder from the USA.
My concern is about the NTSC/PAL format.
Will I be able to view the movies directly on a PAL TV or will I have to re encode the movie before ?

If you are getting a camcorder from the States, make sure its a PAL format one. It's pointless buying an NTSC model for use in Europe. You may as well get the benefit of proper colour pictures and higher resolution with PAL, than trying to standards convert an NTSC picture.

Don't know about Belgium but most hardware in the uk can play both standards (NTSC and PAL). Remember that the US uses 110 volts while the UK and presumably the rest of Europe used 240V. So you would also need a voltage converter.
