  1. I own a Dazzle DV Fast.now AV, and decide to upgrade to one better solution. I capture analougue and DV tapes, edit on Premiere and render to MPEG2 for burning to DVD.

Reading the posts on this site, I interest on Canopus ADVC100 and Pinnacle DV500 DVD.
My question is wich one is better?
Do you have any other card to suggest?

    Thanks....

I can't speak for the Pinnacle, but I have a Canopus ADVC-50 and it has worked flawlessly from day 1. Never once has it dropped a frame or had audio problems. I now wish I had gotten the ADVC-100 because of the remove macrovision feature.

    Netto,

I think you are comparing apples to oranges. The DV500 what many prodfessionals use and is a full-suite integrated package that does many things from capture to DVD authoring and many things in between. While the ADVC-100 does capturing ONLY!!

It all depend on what you need and final disposition of your video. If you want just uncompressed *.avi video with great quality and AV synch, then the ADVC-100 is tool for you. If you want capture in avi, sophisticated titling, editing, transitions, etc, etc, encode to MPEG and burn to disk then the DV500 may be what you are looking for.

    Thanks for your help...

What I tried to ask is: its better still using Dazzle + ADVC100 tacking some advantage (capture quality, AV Sync and inlay preview on Premiere) or buy a new card, like DV500...

    What do you suggest?

DV500 is very expensive (last time I checked), so if you have a large enough hard drive and already have Premiere, I would say the ADVC-100 is a great option and less expensive.

Has anyone compared the canopus advc-100 vs. vdub capture with picvideo mjpeg codec.I've been using vdub lately.I have the ads 2.0,and i find the quality of mpegs created with vdub-picvideo and tmpge much better.I don't know how much you could improve the quality.

    DVWannaB,

I have an 60 Gb (Maxtor / 7200) disk for video. Using Dazzle codec (.avi DV) it can capture about 4hrs of video. But I will increase my HDD to one with 80 or 120GB, and use the 60Gb for system, since the one used for have "only" 20Gb.

Here in Brazil, the price of both cards for import are almost the same (ADVC100: about USD 900 / DV500 DVD: about USD 1,180).

    Netto,

WOW!!!! That is unreal. Sounds like you have a tough choice ahead. I still love and would not trade my ADVC-100.

Side NOTE: I am a HUGE fanatico of the selecao/auriverde. I have many videos of the past years including friendlies and world cup. Good luck against the USA tonight 8)

    bmiller,

I am ecstatic that Vdub with PicVideo is giving you great results. But it is physically impossible for compressed video to be better/clearer/more detailed than uncompressed video. Thats just a fact. Yes, I used to capture with Vdub with PicVideo and/or HuffyUV. While they do a great job, no doubt, the ADVC-100 beats them hands down.

    DVWannaB,

I have some videos about our selecao... Including 70´s World Cup and a DVD w/ historical moments and a magazine. Here in Brazil DVD´s like this are very cheap. If you want I can find a way to send one (note: this DVD is for Region 4 / Pal-M). Other thing that a like is Fomula 1 and Indy. I´ve some videos about Fittipaldi and Airton Senna, and collect everything about them. :)

About capture card, for now I think the Canopus will be the right choice. Later will buy a better card (like DV Storm) and still using AVDC-100 with it.
    Thanks.
