  1. Now that speed could be a point to change my 2.4xDVD+R/W.

  2. Everything that Lite-on makes is gold (CD-ROM, CDRW, DVD-ROM wise) so I have high hopes for this drive. I've got a 4x Pioneer now thou and can burn a full DVD in 15min. Being able to burn in 7.5min would be 'nice' but until 8x media comes out (and the price of 8x media comes down ) I can wait.

Unless of course the drive goes for like < $200 mail order, then I'll just sell the A05...

Ahhh, but is there going to be 8X media, or is Lite-On taking a page from Pioneer's book and coming out with a drive that writes 8X to media which has been certified and for which it has a write strategy?

Iomega will be releasing a 4x DVD+R/-R/RAM writer in August.
If you're in the market for a DVD writer I would wait until end of year because of all the dual format drives coming out and the prices of single format drives will drop significantly.

  7. I wonder if Sony will have a firmware update for all their SONY burners to allow them to write @8x. I hope so, but that is probably wishful thinking. I'm sure they could do it, but why would they when they can make much more money introducing their own 8x drive.

Either way, the technology is moving at a feverish pace! Just the inception of 8x media would probably have 2x media somewhere between a quarter or so per disk. WoW!.....it's gonna be interesting. The sooner it comes out the sooner we can get lesser speed media at a lower price.

Wow!!! 8X already? Even though I just picked up both of my 4X burners about 4 months ago, I can't wait for the 8X to be released. I doubt i'm going to be buying an 8X burner within the next 2 years, but it will benefit because everyone because 2X and 4X media will be cheaper. I'm still happy with 15 minute DVDs right now. It's really not the burning that takes long, it's the converting.

  10. And this is why I am holding off on buying a new dvd burner. I have a pioneer 104 right now and I was about to get a 105, but now I'll just hold off till next year. I never burn any dvds anyways cause I cant stand the hour plus it takes in the 104
