  1. When converting PAL Dvd to NTSC Dvd, has anyone used DVD2SVCD. Heard that you can use it to do with DVD2SVCD. Anyone got the settings to be able to do it? Using CCE to do the encoding. Heard that you can use AviSynth into CCE, but can figure out the script to use. I would appreciate the help. Also will be doing Pal Svcd to NTSC Dvd.

    Thanks

AVISynth will work fine with CCE. There is a checkbox in DVD2SVCD for NTSC to PAL. Newer versions may have a PAL to NTSC option. Someone who uses that software may know, or you could just check their website. http://www.dvd2svcd.org/

If you need to edit the AVISynth script directly, the command you need is:

    AssumeFPS(23.976,True)

I have been wondering about the best way to do this for a while.
    So I ran some tests.
I took 1 min VI DV video clip and encoded it from NTSC to PAL at bit rates of 3000, 3500, 4000, 5000, 6000 all VBR using 1) TPMG, 2) Main Concept alone and 3) DVPAL converter with subsequent MPEG compression with Main Concept. I then burned them to a DVD using DVDlab and played it back on a 51 inch Hitachi TV.
The Main Concept encoder used alone gave by far the best result, TPMG the worst.
Interestingly I used the best quality output with TPMG at it took 40 mins to process a 1 min clip
Main Concept took about 2.5- 3 mins.
    I was very surprised!

DV video is by no means easy, especially when your new to the encoder your using. If your happy with MC's encoder, then stick with it. You'll find it's much faster than TMPGenc. Just be aware that the others could probably do as well, given enough time to properly learn how to utilize them to their fullest.
