  1. New to DVD, just want to know, I purchased a dvd burner that writes to +R/RW at 2.4x speed, would the 4x disk also work?

I believe it would, just like cdr's but at $1.89 a disk just wanna make sure. TIA.

  2. No it won't brn a 4x disc. No big deal since at 2.4x it takes like 22 minutes to burn and at 4x about 15 minutes so you save a whole seven minutes.

I should also say that you may want to consider a DVD-R drive since the media costs is less (at least online it is).

How about telling us what your burner is? Someone might know of a firmware upgrade that enables x4 +R burning.

  4. The 4x disk will burn fine on 2.4x drive. It will just burn at 2.4x speed.

Thanx was pretty sure 4x would burn but at 2.4x, just didn't want a $1.89 coaster.

The burner is a Verbatim VBTDVR1A. Any firmware upgrades?

Well, looks like you're stuck at x2.4 for +R and +RW.

But like Bob W says, the difference is only 7 minutes for a full disk.

  7. If your Verbatim writer is a rebadged NEC ND-1000A (has max 16x CD-R writing) you might actually be able to flash it into a 4x writer (ND-1100A), check here.

But it could also be a rebadged Ricoh RW5125A (has max 12x CD-R writing) and then your stuck with 2.4x writing. If it's a Ricoh you need to upgrade the firmware to version 1.51 to be able to write reliable to 4x media at all.

  8. Time is not a big deal, just wanted the ease of being able to use 2.4x or 4x.

Thanx for the link. Read, Read, Read . . .
