    Which AverMedia card is it.?

My old AVer TV / FM did do NTSC / PAL

It is possible yours may not accept a NTSC input.

VirtualDub or AV_IO to name 2

What type capture card do you HAVE, what programs do you HAVE. That is the more important question. Tell US what you have and your prob, you might get some help, but not if we don't know.

    Hamish,
Just what do you mean by "odd"? Squished or stretched, or what? Color, scan lines?

According to my Philips DVD manual, you're trying to feed a NTSC signal to a PAL tv. It will be black and white, possibly rolling distortion, etc.

    Hamish,
I think the USA and Japan are the only countries using NTSC, or maybe the Americas. The rest of the world, I think, uses one of the PAL schemes.
I don't have an Avermedia card, do know that my MSI and Pinnacle cards have the OPTION to cap in PAL, but I would assume you have to have a PAL source. I have never tried, as, if I did, what the heck would I play it on to test it. It would be a hell of a lot to ask of a card.
You are going to have to investigate the left column to find if there IS a tool to convert your cap to PAL.
Someone who has bought a PAL DVD and converted to NTSC will probably have written a guide IF it is possible. With differing color signals, again, it may not be possible.
I simply don't know. And do a search. That may be even quicker to tell you if you can or can't.
    Sorry.
ps: Hell, try setting the card to PAL and cap 5 minutes. If you get even worse garbage or a "no can do", you know your card can't. Wasted time, not money.
