i am pulling what little hair i have left out. i have been trying to make back ups of my movies onto dvd+r with an nec nd-1100a. i have tried diffrent software (alchol 120+, nero 5.5.10.28 express with dvd decryptor and dvd2one, and dvdxcopy 1.3. i have tried 3 diffrent bands of media (maxell, memorex, tdk dvd+rs) i was getting unable to write disc at once at the end but i worked my way through that. instead i wind up with discs that don't play right. they stop, stutter, or free completely. its driving me up the wall! does anyone have any idea whats wrong??
what am i doing wrong?? i used some maxell 2.4x media when i 1st got the drive 2 weeks ago and made a great copy of army of darkness but now i can't get the drive to burn any movie right.
HELP!!!!!

did you try doing exactly what you did for army of darkness? you will waste another disc BUT if it burns correctly at least you will know your hardware is good. if it doesnt burn i would say reinstall everything you use and if it still doesnt work...take the shiznit back and get another one before it is too late to return.

I assume your are putting all the files made with DVD2one into a VIDEO_TS folder then burning just that folder? Anyway I have the same NEC drive and it always works well for me by ripping with SmartRipper, then DVD2one or DVDshrink (I could care less about menus or extras), and finally burning the DVD+R with RecordNow Max. I have used Memorex and TDK discs.

yeah i deposited everything into a folder called video_ts. i am using nero 5.5.10.35 now still no luck. i just tried again with a dvd+rw and tried it in a toshiba here at work. the toshiba plays the backup of AOD i made. no luck "check disc" appears and it doesn't play.
questions:
do i need to burn at just 2.4 x? can i burn a dvd movie at 4x?
does my antivirus have to be turned off?
when i compile the dvd disc i select dvd movie from the wizard should i be picking dvd data disc? i am really racking my head here.
are dvd drives sensitive to being transported? i transport my system with
me to work every day.
the only thing i can think of is this:
when using dvd2 one for the 1st time i made sure i selected the veiwing angle. this last time i have not.
but its the vewing angle why didn't the backup of maximum overdrive i made not work? it tried to play it and it played the "this is an archived back up o f an original dvd, blah, blah, blah,..." and that was it. it froze up before even playing the movie.
i'm starting to think i have a bad drive. -
TRY CHANGING THE BOOK TYPE OF YOUR DVD+R . YOU CAN DO THIS USING THE LATEST VERSION OF NERO USE DVD VIDEO AND MAKE SURE THAT ISO LEVEL 1 IS CHECKED ALONG WITH ISO 9660. UNCHECK EVERYTHING ELSE. CLICK NEW. AT THE TOP OF THE SCRENE SELECT RECORDER NOW SELECT MEDIUM-INFO PRACTISE USING A +RW NOW CHANGE BOOK TYPE TO DVD ROM. THE FOLLOWING CAN BE USED TO CHECK WHAT BOOK TYPE YOUR DVD+R DISKS ARE RECORDED. BUT DOSEN'Y APPLY TO CHANGING DVD+R BOOK TYPE. OPEN YOUR WRITE CD DIALOG UNDER BURN CHECK BOOK TYPE DVD-ROM. HOPE THIS HELPS I HAVE NOT HAD DVD PLAYER THAT COULD'T PLAY MY DISCS USING THIS METHOD ALWAY USE BOOK TYPE DVD-ROM FOR DVD+R/+RW TO BE MUST COMPATIBLE

Try following the DVD2ONE guide on the DOOM9 website. I like this guide because it tells you how to PROPERLY create a final DVD disc.
Some BURNER programs don't work 100% correctly and NERO has shown to be one such program (though many claim the very newest version will work just fine). Anyways, the DOOM9 guide tells you how to properly make an image file (from the files DVD2ONE makes) and then how to burn that image file. The process uses FREE software you can easily download and it makes a much more compliant DVD disc than NERO does.
Give it a try

P.S.
After using DVD2ONE I create an empty AUDIO_TS folder then create an image file using ImgTools (classic version) and then burn the image with DVD Decrypter. This method is in the DOOM9 guide."The eyes are the first thing that you have to destroy ... because they have seen too many bad things" - Lucio Fulci

ok i'm stupid. i decided after the last attempt at doing Dusk till Dawn and it froze at the 34 second mark to go to wally world. there i purchased an apex 1100w which was on dvdplusrw.org's compatablity list. came home hooked it up. poped in the "bad" copy and procedded to watch the movie with no problems.
anyone want a klh 221 CHEAP?
i'd like to thank everyone here for their responses. i've posted questions on other subjects and had not a single response with hundreds of people viewing my post. if you ever need busted out of jail or something let me know.
