Make sure you used the correct template in TMPGEnc when you converted from avi to mpg. e.g. If you live in North America then you should have selected the standard NTSC VCD template.

Secondly, try burning the VCD to a different brand of CD-R. Use the DVD player list on this site to see if your player has any problems with any particular brands or types of media.

it's your (stand alone) player. check vcdhelp.com. to see if (your) model can play vcd. Then come back. (OK?)

I make my VCDs the same way, AVI converted to mpeg with TMPGE and then written to CD with NERO and have had no problems yet.

Will the burned VCD play on the PC?
If it does not then check your settings in TMPGE and NERO if they are correct then try a different brand of CD-Rs.

--is this the correct template because your source was 25 fps?
you either need to encode with the template that matches your source, or do a framerate conversion. as far as writing VCDs, the foolproof way is to use VCDeasy to write an image, daemontools to mount the image as a virtual CD, and then cd copy with whatever authoring software you like.
what are you askin' me for...

  9. well if your in america then you need to be converting and burning under NTSC settings NOT PAL. Did someone else ask you that

  10. I ran into the same problems on 3 different occasions, when doing something of the following:

1.) Didn't select "No compression" in VirtualDub, before saving the audio out as a WAV.
2.) Didn't pay attention to the audio sampling rate, it should be changed -if necessary- to 44.100 (in Virtual Dub)
3.) Someone suggested setting the VBV buffer size in TMPGenc to 0 (Automatic) instead of 40 and then my audio hung and the image was like slow-motion. Was a real bummer to find that out. Maybe this is the best bet?!

not necessarily...I'm in America, and can play PAL discs with no problem.
if you have CDRW's, then try burning the sample (S)VCD's for the different formats(PAL...) to see if you can play them. if you can with no problems, then just convert using the same format as your source. if you can't, you may need to do conversion, and you'll have to just search the forum for that. it's not an easy task(from what I understand), but it can be done, and there are guides for it available

  12. Fantomlord:

Sorry, but I have to correct you a little: Conversion is not quite a task, TMPGenc does it like nothing, just by changing the resolution and framerate accordingly.

I'm in Europe and I have a multi-norm TV so I can play either NTSC or PAL. I tried converting stuff back and forth and it works fine with either one. I usually opt for PAL though because it's really the better norm.

I was just stating my observations as far as framerate conversion...as I said, I can play any format--so I've never had to bother. I've just seen plenty of people saying that it's kind of a pain

  14. Hello all

Have the same problem on my Pioneer 444 and Memorex CD's. No problem with Verbatim, Imation or TDK's.

Though the Memorex CDs that keeps freezing on my Pioneer 444 plays just fine on my Pioneer DV909, (old and do not play SVCD's)and a cheap $99 United DVD player.

So my conclusion must be that it is the media that is the problem.

  15. I have the same problems with some video files i add while burning. For instance, I'll add a trailer (.mov to mpg) before a movie and it will freeze video like hell even though the movie plays fine..

Also Im yet to have successful playback with homevideo's edited with premiere and exported as avi in PAL. I encode with TMPGENC into PAL (because I live in Australia) and i get a real bad framerate, like 1 frame every 10 secs even though audio is fine, does anyone know why this problem is occuring?
