  1. Since I have been authoring my own videos for the last few years, I find that I am becoming very critical of the quality of commercially produced material.
I will be watching something and notice that maybe a scene wasn't cut cleanly, or that a transition between scenes is not as smooth as it should be.
I see block noise regularly. I cannot enjoy watching anything from DirectTV on my parents big screen television when I visit.
But to top it all, I noticed what appeared to be a lip sync problem the other night in Spiderman!
It was in a scene that I am sure they over-dubbed, but it was noticeable.

My family thinks I'm nuts because I usually find something to complain about in every thing we watch, but it is really starting to cut into my viewing pleasure.

What about you guys? Does it bother you too? or should I just take a Vallium and try to live with it?
Just what is this reality thing anyway?

  2. I normally pick up on things such as boom mics, technical faults, bad video, fake CGI and audio dubbing mistakes.

However once I get drawn into the story of the movie I generally don't pay as much attention to them. If the movie is crap however then it is open house on picking out the mistakes.

cheap special effects, studio equipment, and noise annoy me. The DVDs I make have no artifacts if any. But on some movies its ANNOYING.

I remeber in Blade II where the father vampire was bleeding through the throat and the next scene, you saw a hose on the floor pumping the blood. I pointed it out and all my friends were laughing.

I personally think that finding movie mistakes is half the fun. The movies makers are humans just like us, so they make mistakes as well.....they just get paid a lot more to make their mistakes.

  6. edited versions of R rated movies with lots of swearing is always funny. mother sucker is the stupidest replacement i've ever heard. they should just show those movies on cinemax or some other sleazy channel because censoring "foul language" is stupid.

  7. i tend to notice directing errors eg positioning of cast, change of clothing etc but i am not so into block noise etc. I guess in a good movie it doesn't really matter anyway, but it does show that even the pros make mistakes!

    2) If your question has anything to do with copying PS2/PC/XBox games, find a more appropriate website

My father worked for the bbc as a quality controller for around 25 years. this means that i am unable to watch programs without picking up problems. old transfers of films i'll say "ooh, that was a bad roll-off" in "friends" i say near enough every episode "boom" lip synch is terrible on -everything- and i hate watching digital TV. our broadcasts look much better. i sometimes pick up on continuity, but not often. action films it's not worth counting the number of bullets fired, but i know it's more than it should be. the ohter thing i hate is when you have a camera on a track or a crane, and it "wobbles" as it pans. why o why don;t they reshoot when that happens?! it looks so ugly!

That's the curse of this hobby. The more you learn, the less you're satisfied with. If its a campy movie I really don't mind actual mistakes, ie: In Sleepless in Seatle they are supposed be in Seatle yet you can see the Golden Gate Bridge, but if its a serious movie than I find these mistakes detract from the realism of the movie. As for editing and encoding mistakes, I have no tolerance for them. I notice flaws in video all the time. Scroll through some scenes frame by frame on your pc and you can see dust, hairs, etc.. It's a shame when studio's don't take care in releasing a less than blockbuster movie. Its particularly worse because its not likely another version will ever be released, while T2 is getting released for like the 5th time.

what about when the voice sounds different? i was just watching die hard and it sounds like they used a different person for the edited parts. the voice sounds nothing like bruce.
    His name was MackemX

What kind of a man are you? The guy is unconscious in a coma and you don't have the guts to kiss his girlfriend?

  12. As I continue to stay in this hobby, I get more and more anal about movies. I find it hard to watch a movie I have encoded without looking for pixelation here, possible sync issue there. I usually have to watch a movie 3 times. Once for pixelation and sync issues, once to notice ALL of the mistakes made by the producer, and the third to just watch the damn thing.

I have a 2 year old son that loves to watch spiderman. I cannot watch the scene between peter and flash when they are fighting. I always end up watching the "large" kid behind them. Clapping his hands, then looking in another direction, etc. I spend a lot of time looking at the extras to see what they are doing. Its sick I tell you.

There was a post awhile back where I person started talking about copying porn and then it turned into a critique of how the movie was made. Someone said something like, you are watching porn and all "us" people can do is make sure there is no pixelation. If my wife ever went out and purchased a movie, I know that I would probably end up doing that---a real mood killer, I guess, LOL!!!

Ah, porn.... Talk about the ultimate lip-sync problem! I am always amazed how the actresses can scream so loudly when they have their mouths closed

  15. I have seen "blocking" and digital artifacts on DirecTV a lot. On just about every channel. As for errors in movies, shots being mismatched are what drives me the nuttiest. Especially in a closeup, then the medium shot the actors are not in the right position. You see this a lot in older films too, even product made by major studios. You have to train your mind not to watch too closely, as the imperfections in these multi-million dollar productions are countless and can easily spoil the story (if there is one). If you bought a car with as many flaws as the typical Hollywood product, it wouldn't even run!
