I saw a post here somewhere stating that upgrading Philips DVD players firmware allowed ff/rew on SVCD titles. Where can I get a firmware upgrade and how is this upgrade done?
Has anyone else upgraded their Philips DVD players firmware and was it worth it?

    I own a Philips DVD 622 player.

Forget it, that was probably someone who didn't know the difference between VCD and SVCD. Currently I think there's no known firmware that fixes the Philips/SVCD/over40minutes/FF/RW-issue. You probably have firmware 2.9.6 installed?

Actually, I have no idea about the firmware version I'm having. I also have no clue about how to upgrade firmware on standalone players, so I'd like to have some more information

    Look here: http://www.home.zonnet.nl/jeroenverhaar/en/indexdvd.htm
Here you can find firmware versions and how to identify your current version. I don't think there's firmware available for your model of player so beware.

Thanks for the link. It seems that there are no hacks / upgrades for my player ... or maybe they are just not tested with my model. Who knows, maybe this model doesn't even have the ability of upgrading firmware.

  6. I think it is able to upgrade the firmware. However, this line of players (with mp3 support) is quite new so probably no new firmware has been made yet.

Having said that, I hope they will create new firmware soon, to solve the FF/RW issue on SVCD's. I suggest you contact Philips to report your problem. I have done this also.
