Hi all,
Not sure if this is strictly SVCD authoring question so i figured id play it safe in the noob thread.
I'm trying to make an svcd with a couple of tv show episodes and want to include opening/closing credits while still getting good quality.
Now, if I trim the eps into 4 parts (opening credits/episode1/episode2/closing credits), is there a way to make the svcd play the credits before and after each ep without putting 2 copies of the files on the disc (Giving me more bitrate to play with)? If its even possible, what software would i need?
For what its worth im using:
90min cd-r's
dvd2avi
tmpgenc
nero 5.5 (open to suggestions tho)
Thanx in advance

I can think of a way to do it with VCDEasy but it only saves you from having to repeat the end credits. If you make a menu picture with the episodes listed you can set up your disk as follows:
first track - menu
second track - opening credits and episode 1
third track - opening credits and episode 2
fourth track - end credits
Take care of the Interactivity for the menu by make it react correctly to the keys pressed (1 plays ep 1, 2 plays ep 2 etc). When programming the subsequent Interactivity, after track2 or 3 plays have it skip to the end credits ("on timeout play credits.mpg"). Then on the credit's timeout have it skip back to the menu so that you can select the next episode or stop the disk.
If you have questions about VCDEasy menus or interactivity check out the guides. (I like Adam's guides)Happy to be here. -
Here's one way, I use TSCV but should be able to do it in most menu makers.
Main menu is opening credits, defaults to Episode one but Timesout to Episode 2. (or the other way around) Episode one and Episode two both return to second menu, the ending credits. Second menu returns to Main menu, here there would be a choice to press play or enter for Episode 1, or allow Timeout or press 2 for Episode 2. This is the part of the process that I don't think can be completely automated.
The other thing is that opening and ending credits don't take up very much space, anyway. -
Cool i'll take a look at VCDeasy/TSCV.
Yeah, i know credits don't take up that much space, i just want to be difficult
Besides, it wouldn't be a proper hobby if i didn't put inordinate amounts of time and effort into getting all the bells and whistles to work! :P
Thanks for the help guys -
You CAN do exactly what you wanted to do, with a number of apps but specifically with VCDImager, etc. As you probably already know, the VCD and SVCD specs allow for playlists. What gets past lots of people is the fact that these playlists can encompass more than 1 segment.
Example of usual playlists:
[P-List001]
SegmentA
[P-List002]
SegmentB
[P-List003]
SegmentC
Multi-segment playlists look like this:
[Playlist001]
SegmentA
SegmentB
SegmentC
[Playlist002]
SegmentB
SegmentC
SegmentA
SegmentB
This would fit in fine with your episode scenario.
BTW, I hope that your credits are identical. It would be a shame to lose somebody's name who worked SO HARD as production assistant on Episode 2.
HTH,
Scott
