Hiyas - just looking for a little advice..

Looking at buying my first dvd burner. Cool. Intend to convert some VHS tapes to DVD, get a feel for things.

What sort of results can I expect though from capturing with a TV tuner card. I can capture at 640*480 or 768*576 without problems (dropped frames etc) using huffyuv.

More specifically what I'm wondering is is my Tuner card REALLY operating at those reolutions, or is it simply blowing up pixels (similar to digital zoom in a digital camera I guess)

So, am I gonna be fairly happy with these results, or will I need to buy a more expensive dedicated capture card of some kind?

Thanks. Apologies for any glaring lack of what should be obvious knowledge

Your card should be ok, they are all about the same.

Full DVD (720x576) is an overkill, but the problem is that 1/2 DVD (352x576) may give some loss in quality.
IMO SVCD (480x576) is the best format for tv capture, but ironically you don't need DVD burner for burning SVCD, just a cd burner will do. you will be able to fit about 45 min on cd.
