  1. Does anyone know if there is a way to batch frameserve from VD to TMPGenc instead of having to do one file at a time?

Ok I have multiple uncompressed avis which I am going to encode to mpgs. Usually i load them right into tmpg and convert using the filters in tmpg. I load them one at a time, and I batch them by going CTRL-ALT-M, and then at the end I do CTRL-B and hit run (not START), and they all go one by one.

I was told to use VD's filters because they would provide better results. See post: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=160072
So I tried frameserving. I load an uncompressed avi into VD. I apply filters. Then I hit File, Start Frameserver. It selects the file which I just loaded into VD as default, and I hit ok. VD gets automatically minimized, and it lauches its frameserver mode window. Then I launch tmpg, and use the browse button to load in the video.vdr.avi file which the vd frameserving mode has just produced (this file provides the link over to tmpg). Its only 1kb. I apply more filters in tmpg if needed, and then hit start. It encodes. Now I want to be able to frameserve in a batch, but since this vd frameserve window needs to be open inorder for the first clip to encode in tmpg, I dont know how to load more clips into vd without aborting the frameserve window, which will then prevent the first clip from running.

You can run more than one copy of VirtualDub and have multiple frameserving files batched up in tmpgenc.

  3. I thought about that but was hoping there was another way. Do you know if that is the only way?

VirtualDub is more of a 'real-time' tool, for good batch control you would be better off using Avisynth. You can create a separate AVS file for each video and batch encode them the same as separate AVI files.

I posted a reply in your original topic. Why would you not want to do that? If you run Virtualdub for each clip and one copy of Tmpgenc to batch encode, it won't have any adverse effect.
