Made my first backup of Femme Fatale w/DVDShrink...worked great, I thought it looked tremendous. I know there's DVDShrink hecklers, and I'm interested in producing high-quality backups. Next up was The Muppet Movie which was only a DVD5 so I backed that up w/DVDDecrypter using the write/read. Here's the issues I've run into since I've gotten into the game.
1) When trying to use DVD2DVD-R, I received this message "Install ASPI Driver First." Every other util works mostly ok...don't I have an ASPI Driver installed to use my A05 at all?
2) Here's my biggest issue. I have 4 movies that I backed up to my hd w/DVDDecrypter several months back, before I owned my A05 - although I knew I'd be getting one soon. I backed them up as "Main Movie" I believe and they play fine through PowerDVD on my PC - but I think I might have backed the files up incorrectly and need help going from what I have to authoring a DVD-R of them. The dir structure for these backups looks like this:
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_PGC_01 - AV DELAY INFORMATION.TXT
VTS_01_PGC_01 - CHAPTER INFORMATION DVD MAESTRO.TXT
VTS_01_PGC_01 - CHAPTER INFORMATION - FRAMES.TXT
VTS_01_PGC_01 - CHAPTER INFORMATION - OGG.TXT
VTS_01_PGC_01 - CHAPTER INFORMATION - SCENARIST.TXT
VTS_01_PGC_01_X.VOB (where X represents the number of .vob files for each title - usually 1 - 5 or so)
As I said I can play these back fine in PowerDVD, but IC7 doesn't want anything to do with them and I get this error when moving from Re-Author to Re-Encode in DVDShrink:
"DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue"
"title vobs file does not exist"
"the reason is: the system cannot find the specified file"
I'm open to using whatever program will take my files and allow me to author a DVD-R for these titles.
3) Lastly, probably rather insignificant, while trying to backup my copy of The Goonies, DVDShrink produced this error:
"DVD Shrink encountered a fatal error and will close"
"The error message is: no cell pieces in this angle"
"This is probably a programming error - the author of DVDShrink would be grateful if you reported it"
Thanks for any help fellas, I'm off to read more.
Lightnin' (Thanks for all your guides MRBASS)

Kids man...(which is the reason I wanted to start backing these up after I've lost at least a half dozen DVDs to random child abuse)...
Femme Fatale I picked up for about $5 from a clearance rack.
I'm working out the backup kinks before I do "my movies."

if you still have the discs you need to make sure that you ripped ALL of the files when you used dvd decrypter (by default it selects only the main movie files). If you select only the movie files ic won't recognize the file when you open the folder you ripped them into (is blank cause its looking for a certain TYPE of file that is omitted during main movie only decrpter ripping).
I am not sure i f any of what i said is true but i think it is. lol
ps ill trade you goonies for a bad news bears goes to china... -
That's one of the problems...the few titles I ripped prior to having my A05, I loaned to my brother-in-law (they were titles my family didn't watch much, Peter Pan 2 and Pete's Dragon along w/a few other kids titles - hold the ongoing snickering.) I certainly can get them back but they live about 8 hours away and only come back to visit every few months. Which is why I'm looking for a way to author the files I have.

i think its because dvdshrink and ic need the video_ts.ifo.
use ifoedit to create new ifos for your main vobs and it will produce the video_ts.ifo for you.

I've used DVD2SVCD with great results. I use CCE SP encoder to do the transcoding portion of the job.
I have yet to run into a movie which will not rip and re-encode -
1.) Just download force ASPI.
2.)VTS_01_PGC_01_X.VOB Rename all of these files to just VTS_01_XX.VOB. Take out the PGC_01.
The VTS_01_0.IFO file is the file information for VTS (Video Title Set) 01. It contains information, video type, size, length, audio, navigation etc.. for everything in VTS01, it points to the files named VTS_01_XX.VOB. Everything errors out because it can't find any files named VTS_01_XX.VOB.
That easy
DVDShrink, DVD2One will now work.
If you wanted to, you could load the vobs into dvd2avi, spit out a d2v, and demux the ac3. Encode to fit the size of a dvd, and reauthor. Check the guides for more info on using dvd2avi reencoding, and simple movie only backups.
Let' us know how the boob flick, I mean, Femme Fatale turned out :P
